I'm schoop. Average joe from Finland (EU) who has never played any RTS online. Yes, I've strolled through warcraft 123+FT, SC1 and 2, C&C-series (+ RA and Generals), Total Annihilation and whatnot when it comes to RTS. I've always liked RTS but like I said, i have never played them online, not even against any other human being. That is until three weeks ago or so.
First two weeks in my SC2-career were quite bumpy. I completed the campaign (and liked it quite much) and started to play some ladder-games. I tried all races but I felt most secure and had most success when playing Terran. I was able to raise some ranks in the fearsome Bronze-league. Started from somewhere #80 and was able to get to ~20 or something as terran when I kinda hit the brick-wall, at least it felt like it.
That brick-wall is also known as "cheese." Do you remember your early days when you first got 6pooled or 4gated to oblivion? Completely caught offguard by a force that should not be able to exists that early in game? I knew my opponent didn't cheat but how they did it?
So, I started to look ways to improve my gameplay. I knew bronze was the worst league and mostlikely was filled with players just like me and I also knew that to get better player overall I had to improve my basic gameplay. At first I went to battle.net forums and from there find a link to TL and the oh so heavenly Liquipedia.
Yes, that was the very first time I heard about Buildorders, macro and micro, cheeseplay, openings and whatnot. Internet is filled with guides how to improve your gameplay and how to get from bronze to plat or even to diamond solely by macroing.
That was when I made a decision: I decided to concentrate only in macro and mechanics not forgetting the main reason for why I play games: It should be entertaining and fun! Also, to enjoy the game as a whole I decided to start playing as Random with GRID-hotkeys.
As being somekind of amateur-athlete I also decided to start keeping somekind of SC2-diary or blog from my jorney, hence this blog. To be honest I had a blog in blogspot earlier but decided to move it here. Why keep my blog in blogspot when I can keep it here where some even may find, read and enjoy about it
I know my level of english isn't great but I hope you can understand it.
So, where I stand now in SC2? I'm still in Bronze-league and currently ranked #6. I believe that I have improved quite a lot in terms of mechanics and macro but 100% win-streak is still unheard of I have total of 249 games and have been able to win 131 of them which sums up to 52,6% winratio. Today I had my 50th victory as random and new funky portrait. According to SC2gears my APM-average is something like 70.
This first post became quite a wall of text so better to leave it here for a while. In future I'll keep updating this blog by writing my own thoughts about my own gameplay (my BOs, MUs and such) and SC2 in general.
Cheers.
