1. 4v4 team games are infinitely less stressful and nerve racking than 1v1 games. I think I've found my niche in SC2 (yet to give 2v2 and 3v3 games a run). But yeah, I suck at 1v1s. I've never really played RTS games until now, so I feel very much behind the eight ball. My mind is simply not conditioned for the multitasking requirements of SC2. Instead, I've had a history of playing games where you run around like a headless chicken, spraying and praying.
After consulting such threads 1, 2, 3, I've decided that massing tier 1 units is the best option. With that, I went 3-2 in placement and ended in gold! How nice.
2. Brother Mack prays for Brother Jinro
Brother Mack is awesome. Get him to GSL!!! He can provide colour commentary.
3. Relating back to 1, how do all you people fit SC2 in your lives? I've got so many things nagging at me, have books to read, things to draw, music to listen to, other games to play, movies to watch. I can't play more than a few games of SC2 before moving on to something else.
4. Interestingly enough, I love monitoring teamliquid for all the recent news, goss and oddities on SC2. I'll browse strategy threads even though I won't make use of it. I'll keep in touch with all the latest patch changes, even though none is big enough to actually change my minimal gameplay.

I almost have the reverse problem you do with team play vs solo play - I'm doing fine in 1v1s (low masters random) but it seems I always try to do 1v1 builds in team games and my ally ends up sucking while i almost hold a rush or something and just get stomped, while i would have smashed either player on the other team in a 1v1
On the other hand, I have the same problem as you in #3, I get maybe 3 ladder games done per day after warming up in free for alls or playing 2s with irl friends. Maybe that's where I get my hatred for 2s, 3s, and 4s, because they're all terrible and if I get rushed by two people it's usually GG if they're halfway competent.

2v2: tier 1-1.5 only don't scout proxy the shit out of the map you expo you lose if you expo and you don't lose you could have won the game earlier
3v3: suprisingly similar to 1v1 one of you should scout for proxies and/or rushes proxy rushes, turtle techs and expanding all work many synergies exist in the map (share entrances, ramps being close) focus on countering the enemy unit composition if they have a much to diverse ball, try to out-macro them this is actually my favorite mode because it is the most versatile gametype
4v4: heavy teamplay dependent - chose a tactic at the beginning and stick to it! scout late rushes can work, but don't all in as even if you take out one enemy it often isn't worth the tech delay of 2 of your team ech is more important than expansions, try to get your tech ready, some units and THEN some additional bases focus on heavy HP units as they are easier to micro ZERGS SPREAD CREEP LIKE CRAZY ... this is actually very very important
they all feel alot different than

yeah you definitely can't play 2v2 and up with a 1v1 mentality. Fast expansions are even more riskier.

I'm actually scared of playing 2v2, the timing rushes, the unit composition rock paper scissors game is almost scary. This is of course playing from a random POV. So the moral of the story is... 2v2 random, GL.
I agree with Jacen, 3v3 is much funner to play than any other modes. 4v4,, whoever has that AOE killer unit, you'd probably win.

I use to love 1v1s in BW. Consistently got B-/C+ many seasons and loved how intense it was. So obviously I was excited for SC2 and being above average there. SC2 for me was lack luster, mainly because Terran and Protoss doesn't fit my style and the Zerg flavor is gone. Mainly saying lurkers and defilers which made Zerg so fun. Also most of my friends are in bronze.
1v1: I just don't have the motivation to get good. I got up to diamond and was content. Waiting for the next expansion hoping for some good Zerg units to make 1v1 more fun.
2v2: Fun with certain friends. Very dependent on ally and teamwork so playing with certain people or random can get frustrating. I feel like 2v2 can be the most fun since I had the most epic moments in it.
3v3: I find the most casual. Usually strats either have to be very serious and coordinated attacks or can be pretty laid back with some high tech units.
4v4: I find to be the worst. Either one friend or some random will decided the team can hold a 4 man rush and tech up to some high end unit with everyone dead, he's stalling with mass carriers.
