This is for everyone who visited the SCA forums and is speculating about what happened and what will happen. The point of this thread is to keep everyone in the loop concerning ongoing developments. Please don't use this thread to make wild speculations about TL.net or bash HD or Husky, that will only result in this thread getting locked like the other two.
Edit: New website (in Alpha phase) is up and running. Read below for more information!
The forums went down sometime before December 21st at 11pm EST.
Before the forum went down kOre was trying to get a hold of HD, Husky, and Arena Master. He was able to contact Husky, but I'm not sure whether he was able to get a hold of HD.
I spoke with Harbinger, Kumori, and luRx, and none of them knew what was going on, but Harbinger and I decided to keep in touch with the core of the SCA community and keep everyone updated while we figured out what had happened. I have not heard from kOre since the site went down. I haven't heard from Harbinger in days, but I was able to get a hold of Ahnaris on the 27th. He did not know why the forums were down, but said that he would try to get a hold of Husky.
Ahnaris got a hold of Husky sometime before the 29th. He said that Husky told him that "he and HD are talking about SCA." I recently (12/30/2010) sent an email to HD and Husky with my questions and grievances.
Received an email from HD on Jan 3rd saying that he would get in touch with Husky. That's all I can say for now.
Final Edit
I did not receive the desired response from the Starcraft Arena Senior Administration by the proposed deadline of January 7th. I have already sent in my letter of resignation and to this date I haven't heard a single word about SCA.

EDIT: Big thanks to the awesome TL staff for letting this thread stay up! 2nd EDIT: Do not use this thread to compare TL to SCA.

What is Starcraftarena.net and why is it a big deal that it is down?
|
isn't it the HD/Husky forum they set up?
|
Thanks for keeping us updated, appreciate it

Is HD and Husky still interested in the SCA community specially now that they are earning the big bucks from youtube? Maybe its a waste of time and money to keep SCA running. Just throwing this out there.

You can also make money from websites with bare minimum effort. Slap ads on them and rake it in.
No, that doesn't make any logical sense. I will try and get ahold of Husky and find out what's going on, but he's not been around much over the holidays for obvious reasons.

I know this is a bit of a tangent, but does anyone have further information on the next HDH2? It was promoted a fair bit on that site i remember.

Wasn't HDH2 supposed to happen in August? I wouldn't hold your breath.

I think some things were just not to be.
Hopefully they can say something official. I just need closure

I hope that this can all be clarified really quickly.

Not to be rude, but what did SCA offer that TL doesn't?
|
Honestly this was kind of inevitable. I think Husky and HD just decided to make a forum impulsively and then forgot about it.

Most discussion with something to do with Husky on TL usually turns nasty with people getting warned/banned (people have said some quite disrespectful/not nice things).
Sometimes you just need a place of your own.

Its just less strict, and a bit less serious on the SC side. A lot of the more active people on the site weren't amazing SC players but they were just fans of the game. So it has that over TL.

It was a smaller "everything goes" forum. Personally, I prefer that forum because I don't get warned for looking at a post the wrong way like you can here. The SC discussions aren't as high-caliber but it's a trade-off I accept.
Also, due to the smaller nature, I found it easier to want to get along with the posters. Here, there are so many posters I can't keep anyone's name straight.
And, finally, there was much less groupthink at SCA.

We had a smaller forum that was more intimate and personal; people were allowed to have avatars and we had nearly no trolls or aggressive Bronze-league theorycrafters. All the thoery we had was good, and usually on the level of a promoted thread on TL.
I love TL and SCA, but they are both different places, with different people. SCA was more of a social forum that happened to be about starcraft, and TL is only about SC.

BIG RED TEXT

I used SCA to watch the HD and Husky casts. The VODs were well organized by date/caster and they also didn't have youtube ads. I hope it gets back up soon.

There is a General, Blog, Tl community, and sports and games section that is very active so i disagree. I wouldent still be visiting Tl if it was only starcraft
