On the flip side, EA needs the reality check that just because you update the roster of a football game (that doesn't even use real names) you dont have to charge $60 again.

I wish they would just get brutally rebuked and lose mountains of money in the courtroom though, because this is straight asshole behavior and I absolutely hate it.

You should charge $60 if morons are going to pony up the money for it every year. They don't just sell 50k copies @ $60. They sell hundreds of thousands, so why not keep the price point?

corporate espionage is delicious, and whether you hate or love activision/EA, what activision did to their CoD franchise/employees was legal -- what EA did wasnt

Let me break it down for you in the simplest way possible. 1. Activision refused to pay Infinity Ward their royalties for Modern Warfare. 2. Infinity Ward employees called Activision's bluff and flat out left the company. No more original IW employees means a worse CoD franchise every year. 3. Activision is suing EA now because EA hired some old Activision employees. That's the gist of all of this. Activision screwed themselves and are now trying to throw that loss onto some other big company. If Activision wins that means they have a bigger hold on the gaming market and are that much closer to a monopoly. EA would lose some serious market share if they lose $400 million. If EA wins, Activision shuts up and we are back to normal. EA is pretty much the only company that's keeping Activision from having a monopoly on the game market. I, for one, don't want to have one huge company owning all the IPs that come out within the next few years. Games are already rushed and most of the time shit quality because everyone's focus is on getting out as many games as possible each year. Having 2 companies going at it is great for the quality and will keep high quality games coming out.

When you start a new job, you sign a contract. A non compete agreement that by law mandates that you cannot, join or conspire with any company which shares the same market (in many shades of grey) as you. If you arent happy with the way things are than vote. We need more people to vote

So either: A. Activision was paranoid and these devs decided to make EA's fears a reality as a big FU / or just go to EA since they were the biggest / name pay they could get. Or B. Activision caught them red-handed and they decided to go through with it anyway. Now Activision was prolly playing hardball and the devs were right to play the field, just not while they were under contract and getting Activision paychecks. If Activision is paying you millions to make Activision games, they have a right to get pissed off when you are using their millions and your on-the-clock Activision time to develop EA games.

Like a poster above said, it's win win situations because both firms suck. EA -> the good guys? never.
