Ok so today I had to work a 12 hour shift 4am to 4pm. I work at Best Buy. And I had about 1 hour of sleep because I couldn't fall asleep at 9.
First off upon arrival at 3:45 am the line was fucking huge. It stretched from our store all the way down the sidewalk to the target that is about 1/8 a mile. One of my managers uploaded a picture:
Ok so we basically had a little 10 minute store talk, and went over some stuff, then we went to pass out tickets. Tickets basically reserved your laptop and stuff. We had a $190 laptop, that was our biggest doorbuster. So once we opened at 5am it was a total hell hold. You literaly could not walk through the store. We had about 5 different lines for different ring ups (laptops, tvs, random stuff, cameras, etc.) we basically got the customer the item and any attachments/setups he needs then they were sent to the long ass line that takes about 1-2 hours to pay for your item.
It was basically me running around the computer department getting customers laptops non stop for 3 hours while other customers asked me random shit and needed my help. Sorry but if you see a guy with a printer in one hand and a laptop in the other, don't ask for help. But yeah the first 3 hours I could not even walk through the damn store. After the first 3 hour it kind of cooled down but it was still a bunch more laptop retrieving. We did not get our 30 minute break until 11:00, when we were supposed to get a 1 hour break when we work 12 hour shifts. For the rest of the day it slowed down but we were still busy, barely being able to move around the store.
Anyway I don't see why the fuck people wake up at 3:00 to shop. That is ridiculous. The funny part is that everything else except the couple of doorbusters was regular price. But now I get to work a 8 hour shift tomorrow morning. Yay.

American's were told to do so by TV. They are pretty fucking good at doing what that things says.
I only watch TV on the internet so I'm immune to the brainwashing xD

wtf
people are crazy. i will never understand Black Friday shoppers.
|
Oh yeah, at one point this guy came in and we didn't have anymore laptops in the ad so he started throwing shit and knocked a monitor off the shelf. We had cops in there though.

Lol, Americans think they're saving money on days like this. They don't realize that they save more money buying nothing at all -.-... Stupid Americans..
|
I stopped waking up early for black friday when i was 13 (some guy almost strangled me with the scarf I was wearing). That stuff usually tends to be insanely hardcore. I realized that I'll be spending more money on the stuff that I buy than the stuff that I will actually use from what I bought.
Also, I prefer to catch up on my sleep then. ^^

The deals at Best Buy this year were shit compared to previous years... Not worth pitching tents for like some people did in my area in like 20 degree weather...
|
lol I was at the mall at like 1 AM and see a huge line at Best Buy (people camping basically) and the line stretches to like insane amounts at like 6 AM when we left.
People are idiots mayne lol

Yeah he threw around our little plastic 12 inch covers for our tags, broke about 5, and then slammed a24" asus monitor on the ground. I told my manager to get one of the cops over there over the headset and the dude tried to run but couldnt get anywhere because of all the people. Dunno if he got arrested or not but that is destruction of property. People were trying to steal the karate kid too rofl

Well, this is very important for the US economy - too bad so much of the retail profit goes to the producing nations like China. Spend on! :>
I feel good every time i support a US brand like EVGA that provides jobs within the borders.

I don't think black friday is even about the deals for a lot of people. People I know that do it and that I have gone with in the past just think it's fun. The money saved could be earned quicker by just picking up a shift at work instead of standing in line for a few hours outside and in line to pay.
|
Did you get paid extra for working?
|
These kind of days are for economic stimulus... people are never "saving money" by buying electronics they would otherwise not need at the moment. At least you did your job in helping the american economy recover (by working in the busy hours). Kudos to you.

I thought every store was supposed to have some kind of a discount today, what a shame. Went to the mall, checked out American Eagle (still want to buy a jacket for my gf) and luckily everything they had was 20% off. Other places had either no discount at all or something ridiculously unimportant. Pissed me off!

Having worked retail. I WILL NEVER do Black Friday. Even then, waiting in line for hours in order to save 30-40%?
No thanks, I have my dignity. Especially when you can get the same or better deals from online retailers like Amazon, who priced matched all of Wal-Mart's door busters.

Bwahaha spend 30 minutes in line -> save $140 on a monitor ^___^
30 minutes total driving, $140 per hour would be an incredible opportunity cost don't you think?
