If its anything like the Gaylord Texan Resort that I went to for CPL a while back, it'll be really nice. I wouldn't feel sorry for someone if their objective was a vacation of sorts. Even if you aren't one of the top contenders, might be fun to give it your best and just otherwise enjoy the area.
Thankfully I live here soooooo.. I'll just enjoy my own bed.

I live in Arlington and i have been to the gaylord (work related conf) and the thing aint cheap for a bunch of college guys/gals getting by is all. I might have an extra bed for someone too

Even if you don't do well in the event, it's still a trip to DC which is a wonderful tourist attraction if you haven't been before/recently.

Adams Morgan, U street, George Town, Even Wilson & Clarendon =)

I live between DC and Baltimore, so I figured I'd hate myself if I missed a chance to compete.
Why you would come here to vacation, however, is beyond me =p.
DC might be worth a gander, just to check out the (quite literally) ancient buildings and greek style architecture, but I dunno. Seems boring is all :3.

There's some pretty good food in DC and plenty of museums (if you're into that sort of thing, I happen to be). Worth checking out the national mall if you have some time away from the event.

I grew up in DC, so this event is going to be a blast for me in particular. Alot of my old friends are really looking forward to coming down and checking it out. Hopefully there will be a big gathering of TL folks again as well.
If you're going to make it to the event, please do come by to introduce yourself.

It was said before that you'd have to register with Team Builder after obtaining a pass. Eh? I'm assuming you are, BuddhistSC
You should go to www.mlgpro.com/teambuilder and complete the express check-in. In the Teambuilder, you will just put your birth date, and contact information. If your over 18, you will check a box that is basically you signing the media release form. If your under 18, you will need to print off the parental consent form, and have your parents sign it, and then take it to check-in at the event.
As for your MLG Username, yes, that is what will be on the Bracket for DC. You can change your username by going here: http://gamebattles.com/account/edit . Your MLG Username will work on this site, so you should just use the same Username/Password to sign into Gamebattles in order to change your username.

You will still be playing on your own account with your own name and you can introduce yourself to everyone as whatever name you would like to use Best bet is to just PM me on this site

Just to clarify, we do not force the players to stay in the MLG hotel. Players can stay where ever they like. We just get discounted rooms at the hotel where the venue is located at.

Absolutely. We have been to the Orlando and Nashville Gaylord's this year, and they are great Resorts.

We are working on it. No ETA though.

I saw a lot of people had friends getting passes for them, as well as themselves, to make sure they got in. If anyone has an extra I'll gladly buy it from you.
And in the future, how bout holding an online qualifier for the slots instead of this who can click 2 buttons the fastest at 7. Or at least make the tournament bigger if you are selling out in 4 seconds. Really frustrating, I live 15 mins from DC and can't go because I clicked 2 buttons slower.
|
I understand that www.mlgpro.com/teambuilder was not working. Registration is now opened, so please go there and fill out your birthdate and contact information to finish online confirmation.
|
make fee lower have online qualifier top 64 go to dc to duke it out.... i dont see why not
|
So i hear there will not be any invite's beside's Top 16 from MLG NC.
Which seems fair except when EG has to keep eliminating each other in the first 3 rounds of a tournament..
|
How are there not going to be invites if they only released 32 public tickets? Wouldn't they need to do another release of 16?
|
SunDevil, I think 32 tickets sold, the top 16 had reserved tickets, and there were 16 more invites based off.. i dont know, people they thought were cool or ladder or something. I know if people choose not to purchase their reserved seating, more tickets will be released, anyway.
Also, I posted this in another thread, but this is why I believe its currently limited to 64 players.
I think they'll have to wait until next circuit to really make any changes to it. I believe that during Raleigh they didn't expect such a large interest, and didn't procure the right amount of hardware, support and space in the convention center. For the sake of seedings and whatnot, they can't change the format until next circuit/season/whatever because winning a 64-man tournament can't and shouldn't be worth the same amount of points as a 128-man or 256-man (even if that's only adding 1-2 rounds respectively for the winner.) Doing so would skew the rankings for someone like HuK if he were to lose in DC.
If you want my bet, they'll keep running it in its current format until next circuit, where they'll be sure to have plenty of space and hardware available to run something really big and really good. The inclusion of Starcraft 2 in to MLG was a sudden decision, and I imagine they stuck it in the deepest corner of the convention center (being as that no matches were played on the main stage.) Events are planned and space is purchased many many many many months in advance. Only events that they plan from now on will have the chance to be higher than 64 players, I bet.
I cant prove it by any means, but I think its sound logic anyway. Hopefully 2011 will see much larger tournaments.

They sold 32 open passes and have 16 from the top 16 last event. Since they've been saying its a 64 man bracket, the last 16 spots have to come from SOMEWHERE, and I'm guessing its invites?

yeah not sure where Lz got his info but it has always been 16 from top 16 32 paid spots and 16 invites... haven't heard otherwise.
