With the release of Starcraft 2, I have noticed an influx of players coming into TeamLiquid's IRC channel looking for games. Being the good-natured, helpful person that I am, I'm upset that I have no where to point these players to.
Blizzard has not helped us at all by deciding to remove chat channels from Battle.net. So, that is why I've decided to put forth my own solution to this small, but easily fixable problem.
I introduce to you:
--> #tlpickup on Quakenet <-- Click to open webchat
From now on, I invite all players to use this channel when looking for games. The aim is to help players that aren't satisfied with Blizzard's built in matchmaking service, those who are looking for a practice partner on their level, or just anyone looking for a game in general. This removes the hassle of trying to coordinate through forum posts, PMs, or any other outside communication -- one channel where anyone can go to find a game, at any time of day.
Please note! This is not restricted to just Starcraft 2. You're welcome to use this channel when looking for Brood War games, as well.
This is a new idea, so don't be put off if it doesn't seem like there are tons of people just yet. With any luck, the channel will grow and it will form its own small community within just a few weeks. Ever seen those massive Counter-Strike pickup channels? That's what I have in mind for #tlpickup, so spread the word!
I hope this can be of use to the community!

Probably won't idle there, but cool idea. I've just been finding matches via the practice partner thread and TL Vent.

now that's a smart solution to a stupid problem. cool.

thanks guys!
i really hope this works out for the best
|
i dont really idle irc anymore and havent since the good ol' cs days but i wish you the best

To be honest I am surprised it took so long for anyone to stand up and do this, it's been done in other games for forever but I guess we the SC players just have been spoiled by the ease of Battle.net 1.0 and in-game chat channels.
Everyone join in, lets make this work.

thanks but i'd rather ladder.

I think this is a fantastic idea, sometimes I just want to play against a certain race or maybe practice against a certain build. Now we can have some good ole pick up practices against people that want to practice certain aspects of their game

nice! i'm glad people are liking the idea

Awesome! Join in everyone.

I really hope this idea picks up. It's kind of like having an old b.net channel (OH WAIT) for people to hang out in and play a few friendly matches.
I'll probably log on once I get home from work ...in six hours <_<

Joined x) can't play now though.

You'll be seeing me soon. Really good community idea. I should've done the same thing ages ago. Wonder why I didn't...

Very awesome idea. I can't play SC2 for a bit (construction is making me keep my regular computer disconnected) but I'll definitely use this once I can get back on. Again, great idea and good initiative.

yes! this is so useful! it's better than #findscrim on gamesurge :D

I'm really digging the banner

Tried it and some fag started flaming me for being a platinum player. Wasn't this sole purpose of this chatroom to find players to have fun games with? Except I get flamed for being a platinum player.
