I drive to downtown Jacksonville (FL) to go see some awesome fireworks for Fourth of July. I don't go downtown often and never parked in downtown. I look down at my gauges and see that my temp. gauge is off the scale and I needed to find a parking spot quickly. I see a car pull into a parking garage, i follow, since all the street parking spots were taken. Apparently this was a private parking garage, but I panicked and floored it and followed the car past the automatic door (it almost clipped the top of my car, it was a huge metal door) I got inside. I then spotted a spot to park, was about to pull in and then BOOM. A big pop happens, and smoke raises out of my engine. I stop the car and turn it off and get out. My radiator had basically exploded. It's really bad.
And so I'm stuck. I'm 18, and my parents are gone off on vacation. I've never had a broken down car and had no clue what to do. So i spent an hour or so calling friends of mine in the area and finally got a neighbor to come and pick me up. But I have this car that i need to get back to my house, can't just leave it, its my car lol. So i finally realize to call my insurance company (duh) and I get roadside service and get a tow truck to come, but...i'm in a parking garage and there is no way to get up and tow me out.
I had to get the car out someway or other. It was on a hill and the exit was really close. And I had to push it out. I finally get it out and blocking downtown traffic on July 4th. It caused a scene. Finally we got my car hooked up and got home.
What a night. A very valuable experience i guess. A little upset I never got to watch any fireworks.
Not many people stopped to ask if I needed help either.

sucks, sorry you had such a rough time, cars can be bitchs

when the temp guage is high you should shut the car off immediately. Put on your hazard lights on what have you. I would hate to lose a car like that! tough luck bud

I'm very bad with cars' engines.

car troubles ive been there.. its pretty shitty when it fails on you.. iv had a lot of battery issues with various cars but the worst was when the "chain" of the motor broke and my car stopped cause the engine couldn't start, just as i was going down the exit on the highway and entering a street that was full of buses and cars. I freaked out a bit i was still quite far away from where i was going... a rugby club to a match i had to play..
yeah i got yelled and cursed at quite a lot i was this dumb guy that stopped in the middle of the busiest exit ever for no reason... I got lucky i got the green light cause if i hadnt id probbably would have had a worse time.. i got some help and moved the car out of the road...
these stories are fun to tell after a few years..

This happened to me on the freeway, minus the explosion. I heard like weird scratching noises though and saw my temp gauge all the way up! Quickly pulled over but I guess I didn't do it soon enough because my cousin, who is a mechanic, told me I blew my head gasket. Good luck with the repair, I still don't have my car and it's been like 2 weeks lol :x

Haha, Ya, i'm glad I got out of the road before it happened...People would not of been happy , I was on the busiest road right outside the place where the fireworks display was about to happen. With no where to pull of the side of the road (cars parked on both sides, everywhere)
And, as the saying goes: Anything that doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

I probably will have to get a new engine or new car. And I won't be able to drive anywhere for 3 weeks, because my parents won't be back until July 30th.
Time to break out my bicycle! haha
