Now before I start, let's get something straight. I've been super excited about SC2 for the last two years. I'm not one of those forum vets who haven't played SC much since 2006 and is feeling nostalgic and thinks anyone with a join date after 2007 is a noob. A bit of an exaggeration there, but the point is, I was a very active SC player before beta and planned to be so for SC2. I was trying to become a top SC/SC2 player and hopefully get my name out there.
Anyways... SC2 has really disappointed me so far, and not in the ways that you're thinking. I'm just feeling so trapped and so... bored. Playing SC2 just really isn't fun for me. For a couple weeks I was thinking... "god, I gotta get myself in gear if I wanna get good here." My first goal was getting some sort of cash, anything - sponsors, tournaments, etc - from SC2. I was super hyped before beta even started, but now I find myself making excuses about why I'm not playing. Today it sort of hit me, the reason SC2 killed the SC world for me, at least temporarily.
The community feeling is GONE.
For me, that was a huge realization, for some reason. I was like "oh, this game doesn't suck... I just lost a big reason I played SC1." The truth is, I probably spent more time chatting on SC than actually playing. If you were ever on my ICCup friends list, you'll know that I was spamming away 24/7 into /f m and the op mG. chat. The problem with SC2 for me now is that there's no one to talk to. Three things led to that...
- obviously, no chat channels. This is the big one. Every time I'm not in a game, I'm staring into a void, with the "START GAME" button glowing brightly... it's like everyone got sucked out of bnet. - I don't know anyone! Even on ICCup, there were dozens of guys that I talked to a bit every time I played them - I played a bunch of ladder games, so I saw familiar faces from ladder and clan wars. At this point, with no lobby and really no time to chat, my opponents are just faceless nerds. - SC2 killed the SC1 community as well. None of my friends play SC1, and even if they did, I really wouldn't be able to get myself to play knowing that SC2 beta is out.
Yes, this is just kinda ranting rofl random bullshit whining. Obviously there ARE social tools in bnet, however limited, and obviously there will be more later in beta or at release at the latest. But for now... my passion is gone.

I get the same feeling...
Luckily, I have stream chat to make me feel better O_O; (or worse, I dunno)
I STILL LOVE YOU OK?!~!~

This is my fucking point. I literally have not talked to you since beta came out. T____T

Wanna share your key then? I have a different kind of sc2 depression. I was super excited when the "Hell, It's about time" SC2 trailer came out but I gradually lost interest as Blizzard kept on delaying release. I guess I started to see SC2 as a myth so i wasn't even interested when SC2 beta came out and I didn't get a key. My passion has been rekindled after watching the TL invitational games on YT.
The SC1 community is dead yet. It's just temporarily weakened.

You forgot the time in op mG. where I went on for like 20 minutes calling you a beta bitch? O_O;

StarCraft 2 has yet to develop a community of players willing to do something other than just mass game and stuff.
It'll come, Pokebunny. ^.^

Channels in sc2 beta would literally solve all these problems.
the community feeling is quite bad right now on sc2. I'm sure they will include channels at the latest in the final release... they have to, right?!

The SC1 community is dead yet. It's just temporarily weakened. Already letting two guys fool around with it a bit... I don't really wanna let another person get on it heh.

Yeah, of course. To be honest, a lot of it is because most of mG is on europe (disco and ziph gave out like 3 keys each to mG members and made them play on euro accts). ;_;

/agree. I got on bw the other day and played some 2v2 with speake, sprite, and vestige and it was super fun like old times. Sc1 is just more fun to me to play also but ive still been mass gaming like hell in sc2.
P.S get a euro account already.

I can't even get myself to mass game in sc2 or sc1 anymore. The problem for me is that beta killed both games :\

Try playing some 2v2s they're fun if you play them with your friend :D

I'll be making a comeback in broodwar when wcg qualifiers get announced.

Also the fact that there's only a couple thousand people playing. When this game comes out there's going to be wayyy more people and probably more of your friends to get on the voice chat while you play.
I'm suffering to a similar extent, except I don't need the community to help me have fun, although I would very much like to have that. I literally have no friends who play SC competitively, and I have spent the entirety of the last 3 years with this game. No, I'm not a loser who sits in his room and bangs on his keyboard for 3 hours, but when I play for that 40 minutes to an hour I play a day, I'm hammering away against some guy I don't know who's either too awkwardly friendly or savagely bm.
I'm not very good, and I don't plan on playing in anything over local tournies, but I've always been able to enjoy the game for what it is because I haven't had any other choice. There are chat functions and they're going to roll out more so I wouldn't worry too much, especially when it's not a closed beta situation anymore.

I am only playing 2v2 because 1v1 seems so quiet. Get on irc, grab a partner, and have fun!

Idk if its disappointment or amazement. Its actually both. The game is so amazing but its also a disappointment. I dont know why i feel like that :l Now then get your BW self back so theres +1 person on TL that still plays BW.

I know what you mean. No seriously, I do because that's what your PM said lol.

Thats why I'm sharing my account in EtheralDeath's thread, I've been playing iccup for the past few days, so much more fun..but I know one day BW will die and fade away, so I'll go back to sc2 pretty soon .
