Hey guys. I have a pretty crappy TV in my room and would rather connect my ps3 to my computer monitor and speakers instead.
My monitor only has dvi ports and my speaker uses the standard cable with the green end (don't know what it's called).
So from my (limited) knowledge, I assume that if I just buy these things, everything should work okay.
RCA to DVI converter cable. (Maybe RCA to VGA and then another VGA to DVI because I think the RCA to VGA will be handy for other things.)
a Y cable for my speakers (following this guide)
Correct? Is there a more efficient way?
Thanks

I'm not sure, but would an HDMI to DVI adapter work? It would seem to be the most efficient way, and the best way to retain the best picture quality.

rca to dvi is going to look like shit, HDMI to DVI would be the way to go, then the y adapter like you said

I was connecting my PS3 using a HDMI to DVI, but if you can find other adapters I'm sure that would work also. To accomplish sound I send the cables through an adapter that looks like this:
And the 2nd piece is so I can plug my headphones or speakers into that.
But since I got a better monitor I'm actually able to just plug my HDMI strait into the monitor and both video and sound will go through that (much like a HD TV, at a fraction of the cost).
EDIT: Yeah its basically what the guide says. Though unless your monitor is 16:9 I don't think you'll be able to do anything higher than 480 on it.

Mine's currently hooked up to my monitor with a VGA to HDMI converter (for video).
As for audio, also had to use a Y-Adapter so I could plug the PS3's red/white into my speaker system.
That's basically all I had to do for mine.

ok thanks a lot guys. HDMI to DVI it is.
Chuiu, that's just a standard y-cable + 2nd piece, right?

I think I do have a 16 : 9 monitor (don't exactly know what that is ). It's a 21 inch wide-screen though. And what's that second piece called? So I can just ask the RadioShack guy.

If you try to output the video onto your monitor via a hdmi-dvi cable, make sure the monitor you are using is HDCP complaint (DRM) or else it wont display.
I was in almost the exact same situation myself.
Also you can get cables to do this stuff on amazon.com or monoprice.com for like 5-8 USD.

1680x1050 or 1440x900 are 16:10 1920x1080 or 1280x720 are 16:9 (there are more sizes but those are common ones)
Dunno know what 2nd piece is called, but its a female/female connector for just regular auxiliary input.
