I actually have no idea what's up D:. Ok so, last night I was just freeing up some space on my HD and I was deleting loads of replays and screenshots that I didn't need from my starcraft folder and it seems I deleted something kinda important. I tried loading SC normally today and after it shows kerrigan and that it just closes SC and gives me this error message saying "Could not load "glue\mainmenu\Exit.smk"". Does anyone know what file I deleted to obtain this error message? If it's possibile for me to fix without reinstalling? I don't have a BW CD or CDKey anymore and I really, really can't afford to buy SC at the moment D:.
Any help is appreciated!
edit: Ok, a new problem! I can now get to the multiple choice screen of single player, multiplayer etc, I select multiplayer and Broodwar and SC just gets closed instantly. It asks me before I select Original SC or Broodwars to insert my Starcraft CD into the disc drive but I have no idea if it was asking me to do this before or not cause I never really looked. D:

Did you delete Stardat.mpq? It has your cdkey in it.. =/
|
Well I never heard of that error message from deleting the Stardat.mpq file, usually a cursor error pops up before the game loads.
|
Never seen that message before. Goodluck
|
Nope got stardat.mpq.
Would it be best to list what .mpq's and .exe's I do have in the folder?
|
Yea, check if you have stardat.mpq . If it's gone, try using this program: http://filehippo.com/download_recuva/ to find it again. If you can find it (recovered or not) then, that's all you need. When you reinstall starcraft, remove the stardat.mpq file first, then use the cdkey 33333333333 (or how ever many slots there are) to reinstall it. After you reinstall, replace the new stardat.mpq file w/ the one you recovered/found. If you're just playing iccup, I guess you can just use the 3333333333333 cdkey without the mpq file, but I recommend recovering so that you can retrieve your cdkey in the future with a program.
|
I'm pretty sure you could just download Starcraft off of iccup instead.
|
Ah, good. Weird though, since glue\mainmenu\Exit.smk is in that file.
edit: Yeah, reinstalling and using the old stardat.mpq is probably faster than diagnosing the problem.

list them in the meantime, check if you have: storm.dll stardat.mpq smackw32.dl local.dll editlocal.dll broodat.mpq bncache.dat battle.snp i think all of these are sc:bw materials, but im not sure.. could be one of your folders though
|
Either way it sounds like you should extract the CD-key from the mpq for safe keeping.

I don't have either of these two o_O. I was so careful when deleting stuff I didn't need, was really tired at the same time though haha.
edit: a ctrl f found both these files on my computer somewhere, I moved them both too my Starcraft folder and SC works now. Thanks guys.

Will do this and report back in like 2 hours haha.
|
Reinstalling is probably the easiest solution. Backtracking on what files are missing is probably the harder way to go about the problem.
|
Ok everything works now, except battle.net servers, haha. Thanks ya'll.

Well if it says u need a cd inserted then u need to change ur Install.exe file to Broodwar.mpq.
Find Install.exe Under folder options/view tab uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" Rename Install.exe to Broodwar.mpq
Then u should be good to go? Something like that.

There are programs which can display your CD-Key. So you can use one of those to extract the key, and then use the key to download a full SC version from blizzard.

I downloaded ICCup's version of BW and that works fine for now. I have used this version before and last time there was a new patch released, I don't remember what I did but I got the real game again and I plan on doing that if there's ever another patch.
