What is the main purpose of doing something quick even when you are aware that it dosen't work and it fails? Why do we overlook details in favor of our enjoyment and how does it reflect in our gameplay and in both our real life and improving state of mind? From where it comes hunger that in end eats us if we don't control it well? It comes from beggining of our time as it's natural way to express feeling of desire to get something that you want fastest way possible. But as we can see from example ( Starcraft or life in general) it's mere trap to fail badly and to lower your moral or even worse - destroy it so you can't have good platform to try to change your way of doing things.
Connection between hunger that we experience in need of nutrients from food and other one, hunger for egoboost can be compared to real life experiences and one in Starcraft. For example, hunger for win can push us to attack into just sieged siege tank line without thinking about outcome of the battle. It's important that you always know the difference between hunger that is viable for our health and is part of our life system and hunger that comes from our mind that from time to time likes to exploit your system to get what it wants - speedjoy no matter what is the cost. We want to control this segment.
People that have this problem and lose much games in this fasion need to think how SHOULD to execute something, not how FAST. If you get this mindset into your brain, you will automaticly start not to lose this way because before you even start attacking like madman with manaless High Templars into groups of Hydra, you will think about how will you do it not how fast. When you think about your execution it will promptly make fast decision making because of hunger - secondary thing and not imperative BECAUSE it naturally comes after thinking HOW to do it, not what will speed of it be. So you will de facto scam yourself into thinking that you are in fact attacking fast but as you were thinking about execution - more time passed by in your favor and big plus is that you in fact prepared your attack better via thinking about execution itself. Two flies - one hit.
Overeat or just eat too fast and you will be sick. Attack before your timing is right and you will be in trouble. Starcraft is so like real life.
What drives us to bump up and try to press our "at the moment in mind" advantage and lose it all in one turn of a table that is not in hands of noone but us and player that is sitting comfy waiting for us that he exploits our hunger? As you can continue to draw a tight line between Starcraft experience of building your forces and just wanting to end game with you on pediestal, you can also look into it by eating your favorite meal fastest as you can so you can "feel" the joy that is being fed up with various spices and aromas that are currently in your mouth and stomach. But problem is that there is no clear thinking in that state of mind, that's why so many people lose to this kind of things and they should really try to use my advice - first make yourself WILLING to do it FAST to FEEL the joy, you can't change your BASIC need, but you CAN affect how will you COME to that joy. And by that you can exploit it in same way your opponent is exploiting your hunger - by just making prioroty of thinking about EXECUTION of "FAST attack" and by that you really scam yourself in good way that will in long run do you many benefits.
What drives us to eat more than we need? The same thing when we speed up our attack to feel the joy before we in fact should. People that has this problem often can think cool but they have problem with oustanding the will of the joy that controls their actions. Modus operandi to fix this would be just to train your selfawareness but that's not easy task for someone who does this every day and is part of his gameplay or lifestyle in general. If we try to justify this urge as something natural then we can only make peace that we will never develop in right direction. Funny thing is that even when we do want to just feel that enjoyment fast as possible - it's no different but only faster then "regular" joy that we feel when it comes in slower pace. But in fact, there is difference - second is really more reliable and profitable way in longer run.
What drives us to make fast decision when we feel the urge to "feed" our hunger? Even if we see the current state of pieces on board, we still often do it.
Ofcourse that this drive that we feel can be used in more positive way, but it needs different approach. For example, you can feel rush of adrenalin in beggining of the game when every second counts just to make your build order faster. Again, be cautious and use it like it says in old saying's "Everything is good in small portions" - you need to implement your hunger for SOMETHING into hunger that will GIVE you something in return but in long run. By this you are clearly de-degenerating the main purpose of HUNGER that is destroying your game but you are keeping the parts of it that can benefit to you play. You can easily train yourself to make clear line when you can feed the hunger and when it will do you harm but then we will dive into another subject and that's selfdiscipline that I will cover in future articles. Let's just remember that our caveman feelings of need can be in fact nudged down for our own good but it takes more then few games or few "no-no's" to three chesseburgers at once.
Not gonna attack before I'm ready - check. Not gonna eat so fast that I got need to vomit - check. I see hot chick. I'm outta' here.
One thing that I don't see "fixable" in segment of selfdiscipline is attraction and big desire for another gender. Ofcourse, there are people like priests and the ones that live strict "holy" way of life but they are minor beside huge population that has selfdiscipline problem. Just think about how could we improve ourself if we were selfaware to that point that there is no need for something, no hunger that is not controllable - we would execute and prepare in such fasion that mistakes would be very minor or none. Koreans and Asians in general are prime example how this selfcontrole is done but we will also cover that more in depth next time.
Put it on scale, is it worth to gamble your way into geting it quicker then boosting your chances with slower but more profitabile way? Even the choice is yours caveman, as you can and will do by selfcontrol make your life and gameing better than it was. Atleast better for a laugh or two that you will get from other people that see how you blew your advantage simply by giving other guy freewin to try to satasfiy your "need for speed", was it worth it? Ask yourself and think again and after that think about integrateing viable way of doing things into your daily life but also in your daily portion of Starcraft: Brood War multiplayer.
Control your hunger, befriend it in a way it drives your initial attack in smart way and that it drives your body to make it's full potential in use of nutrients that you intake. Take it will big respect as it's hardcoded in our genes that we are indeed hunters, hunters for hunger that never ends that is within us and wants to be the best and by any chance by full stomach. Use it my friends, use it wisely because it has power of consume that holds being of Defiler and it has power wide and so unoticable but also obvious that it sometimes lurk in deepest corners of our real life experiences that we feel it but dosen't see it as a treath. Who knows, maybe empowering the way of "cloacked" but so powerfull tool that is passed to us generation by generation - to some more, to some less but it's there and best thing about it is - you can and you will control it if you want to do it.
Take care and thanks on support,
