The driving age here is 18 so I still have to wait till Xmas T_T and even then I'm not sure if I'll still be in Bahrain Edit: It's gonna be nice having a friend with a driver's license

You are lucky to have a nice instructor since I have friends who had strict instructors where they had to retake the driving test because the guy was so uptight. Strict instructor in the US?.... The driving test is so disgustingly easy in the US I don't see how it's possible to fail.

The general consensus around the US is that the people at the DMV are douche bags. Like any generality there are exceptions to this. Also, it might depend on the state you live in... I hear NY DMV people are way meaner than the California DMV people.

An interesting piece of information is that Bahrain is one of small number of countries that still use the manual gear in training and examination vehicles. Whenever I ask why they answer : What if you need to use a manual car and you are only used to auto, then what do you do?. At first I was not comfortable at all with manual gear, but as time passed it got really easy and I actually enjoyed it more than driving with an auto car because of the amount of control and feel it gives ya ! However I believe in the coming months, they are gonna announce an option of training with manual or automatic gear.
