Iron Curtain - Best 2v2 map ever? Quite probably
So let's go back to a time where SouL had crappy uniforms, when Khan was no more than a second rate team at best, when iloveoov still reigned strong, when savior only had a single MSL title to his name and when Boxer was battling in So1. Yes this was indeed a different world to the one we are living in today. SKY Proleauge had just started up again for the year (2005) and they had introduced two wicked 2v2 maps; Iron Curtain and Usan Nation. Both which oozed brilliance, innovation, and entertainment. The venue for this masterful war was indeed Iron Curtain, regarded by many as the best 2v2 map of all time (pictured above).
The teams clashing were Soul and Khan. Soul had recently gone on a winning streak at the end of Round 1 and had continued that streak in Round 2 to this point. The strange thing was, they had recently had released JJu from their ranks, and since then they had begun to win. Conversely, Khan had done next to nothing and had no big names other than JJu - who they had recently purchased from Soul. Another purchase for the season was Sigamari, a player in todays event (surprise surprise!).
Soul on a winning streak! Crappy uniforms btw
After three sets the score looked like this;
Child > ggon[HyO]
Child & Hwasin[S.SIR] > ZergLee & Ever)P(TT
TheWinD < mansa[ok]
Child & Hwasin[S.SIR] > ZergLee & Ever)P(TT
TheWinD < mansa[ok]
Some of those names may look a bit odd to some of you newer members so here's a small history lesson. TheWinD was one of the great Gosu zergs of a the poor zerg era. Although he never won anything (like any Zerg) he could still strike fear into the hearts of his opponents. At his prime you could put him on par with the likes of Junwi, Chojja and JJu. TheWind was a pillar of the all-zerg Soul era as well. Child was voted worst player of 2006 by TL by qualifying for every OSL that year and failing 0-3 each time, or something like that. Child's since dropped off the radar. ggon used to be one of the only random players left in the scene, but then he switched to Protoss i beleive and kinda sucked at it and dropped off the scene. I think MBC picked him up for awhile, or POS sold him to khan. Can't remember exactly. ZergLee is the old ID of Sigamari, enough said. TT is the same as the perennial protoss 2v2 player from Khan today! Mansa[ok] is actually one of Stork's many old IDs - so this is a young 17 year old Stork going at it!
Khan were 1-2 down, and in a must win situation and for the 4th set, on Iron Curtain, they sent out Sigamari and Cuteboy (Terran player, played with Jihyun most of last season) to do battle. The T/Z combination was considered slightly weaker on this map for some reason, despite the fact that T/Z generally won, probably because team were caught off guard by the combination as they would have prepared for a P/Z team. Anyway, Soul played it standard and played CComa (Zerg who now plays for estro) and SoO (July's 2v2 partner from last season). Given the candidates, only one name really stood out from the bunch. And that's Sigamari and that's only because he used to be on 4U/Orion/T1 and built up a small reputation and one of the best 2v2 players in the business with IntoTheRainbow. Basically, no one expected anything to amount from this game.
But, instead of getting a shitfest like one would expect - the greatest game of 2v2 was played. Just watch for yourself
+ Show Spoiler +
btw the final game of the series was
sOo[S.SIR] > mansa[ok]
lol
sOo[S.SIR] > mansa[ok]
lol
