Kyrie Irving on Conspiracy Theories, How He Left the Cavaliers, and Playing for Brad Stevens
https://www.theringer.com/nba/2018/1/12/16885072/jj-redick-kyrie-irving-conspiracy-celtics-cavaliers
The thing about it, J.J., is … I can’t even call them “conspiracy theories,” you know what I mean? Some of the pages that I follow, they’ll actually list some of the laws and some of the things that have transpired throughout history, and they’ll just give it to you — almost like a History Channel of other things that aren’t on History Channel. … They’ll give you stuff on the government, geo-engineering, chemtrails, and everything else. It just makes you think. That was the beautiful thing about it — it made me think. It made me think twice about shit.
Initially, it was a sense of relief to be able to take that step professionally: to go to your owner and have a meeting like that; to be able to discuss things that would be beneficial for you. Of course, the backlash was going to come. I was unsure of when, but I didn’t have any thoughts about whether it was going to leak or not.
He brings the ultimate unwavering confidence: Assertive, demanding, but he does it in the most unique way. It’s like almost bringing college to the NBA. I feel like we’re a very professional team, but the way we run things and the way we demand excellence out of each other is something like being on a college team. Our film study, our preparation, our walk-throughs, our shoot-arounds — he has adjusted to the NBA life, but he still has the high character and integrity of being that up-and-coming college coach that he was. … He was always unwavering and he was always chill. [But] he demands it out of you!
...
Yeah. You want to do it. You want to play for him.

Tyron Lue on the Cavs https://www.theringer.com/nba/2018/1/12/16885538/tyronn-lue-cleveland-cavaliers-agendas-losing
“If guys have agendas,” Lue said of his Cavaliers, “we’ve got to get rid of our agendas and play the right way.” Part of the appeal of Lue being the head coach was that he would not be a punching bag for James, as David Blatt had been. As The Athletic’s Jason Lloyd pointed out, Lue used his authority to call out LeBron and the entire team the first day he was promoted to head coach.

How does that help? Can Deandre shoot 3s?

Feel bad for the east coasters. 2AM and NBA twitter is still lit. Fun finish to games today.

Seriously though, they really need some interior defense.

basketball players pretending to want to fight. LOL. here is how its done boys... + Show Spoiler +
minnesota fans hate real plus minus when it points out Wiggins' weak defense. minnesota fans love real plus minus and how great it is at measuring a players contribution to wins when the same stat says Butler is an MVP candidate.
i am a timberwolves fan. when Real Plus Minus says Butler is the MVP of the League i say to myself "yes". when Real Plus Minus says Wiggins is a lousy defender i say to myself "no".

Toronto is very lucky the Van Vleet and Lowry injuries were not much worse.

Thanks for this post i missed it live but caught up this morning. Funny how it goes from much love video tribute to crashing the locker room looking for fights! NBA players are so huge that if they ever allowed such things there would be some major injuries. But its fun to think about. Def in the top ranks of all-time NBA twitter nights. Just a few of the highlights for those interested: + Show Spoiler +

how many times will Isaiah Thomas announce during interviews "we don't practice"? i've heard him say it 4 times now.
apparently the "Q" didn't have hot water in the visitor's locker room so they had to take cold showers. if you combine Philly's cold building with no hot water in the visitor's locker room you could really create an additional home court advantage.

Cavaliers players wondering if their problems are fixable after Warriors loss
http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2018/01/cavaliers_players_wondering_if.html
Multiple marquee Cleveland players spoke without attribution to cleveland.com, ESPN and The Athletic after the loss to the Warriors, and league sources separately spoke to cleveland.com to describe a sullen and dour atmosphere on a team that a few short weeks ago was toasting in Napa, Calif.
"Rotations are awful. IT (Isaiah Thomas) is so much worse than Kyrie (Irving) defensively it's insane," said a league source. "There is not a great feeling anywhere. They need to limp into the All-Star break and get away from each other."

The difference is that when Kyrie tries, he can be effective on D. Whereas when IT tries, he's still 5'7 and completely useless. No, the occasional steal or pass deflection don't help his case. And oh yeah, Kyrie is still scoring. IT had a great year last season but I'm pretty sure that's all it was, a great year. Before that he's only ever been a 20ppg guy who can't defend or rebound because he's an inch shorter than me ffs.
Even if he gets his game back and starts scoring at last year's pace, scoring 30 a game (something he will likely never come close to again in his career... Over under IT being done in the NBA when this contract is up?) is meaningless when the opponent just attacks you on their possessions and score 40. I don't watch the Cavs but the Raptors we're pretty ruthless targeting IT a few nights ago while he was on the floor.

In short, IT is a 57 good player who flourished in Brad's system while Kyrie is a legit superstar. This is all LBJ's fault to be honest. And once he bolt's for another superteam again next season, it will be clear what's what, and I say this as a LBJ fan.
The Cavs are still a threat, but for the first time they look beatable in the playoffs and Boston and Raptors and Sixers are surely smelling blood. Something big has to change.
