It takes a certain kind of genius to revive an ancient strategy and make it work on screen. Very few people are capable of doing that. PuSan revived the ancient anti-tank speedzeal rush against Casy, Sigamari founded himself on the 1v1 scene as a player who would go out of his way to revive old builds and set them to good use.
After my blog 2 days ago talking about YellOw, and posting a game where he did end up losing, i felt bad for all you Hong Jin Ho fans. Today, you get a treat - some of YellOw's hidden gems that don't get talked about that often. Today, we start with YellOw vs Leta on Peaks of Baekdu.
This game was played about half way through last year, so approximately a year ago, during the infamous KTF/SKT slump. KTF persisted in sending their beloved old schoolers to do business on the battlefield; but more often than not came up short. However, today would not be one of those days. YellOw, in all his sexy charm, graced the stage with his presence and made the women in the audience melt. The Storm Zerg was ready to tear Leta a new one.
What a brilliant game by YellOW. I mean, we've all heard about mutalisk harass, and offensive mutalisks - but defensive? His brilliant defensive play with those mutalisks was amazing considering the quantity of Marines that the Mutalisks destroyed.
But hey, pimp defense with mutalisks isn't good enoguh for YellOw. He goes and tops off the whole ordeal with Guardian/Hydra - the ancient strat from 1.07. Leta is helpless as YellOw's superior tactics, mechanics and brilliance dominates him in every facet imaginable.
The sad thing is, that this was one of the last YellOw 1v1 games we saw for a long long time. There are so many brilliant gamers who fall by the way side purely because they lose faith in themselves. Failing so many times in PSL and MBC Prelims has taken it's toll on our beloved YellOw (as has Poker...) and when you look at his face, he lacks that winning spark in his eye.
YellOw has the ability to come back, no one can say otherwise - he is a brilliant gamer in every right. I just hope we see him do so, and make that one last final run and grab the OSL title that has eluded him since 2001.
To celebrate the brilliance of YellOw here is another game, this time showcasing his godly 2v2 skills. This is Yellow/Sync vs Hwasin/Calm @ DMZ. Now if you haven't seen this game, you are missing out on one of the best 2v2 games of 2007.
I was pretty dissapointed when yellow got knocked out of the GOMTV Classic, it was really great watching him play some good games. You should check out his series vs Assam, it's pretty good.
Nice article. I dont think Yellow will ever come back to dominate in any way though, from the latest games (quite old now) Ive seen of him he gets raped pretty badly for the most time
amazing game plexa. and thanks for the junwi summary in your other blog, that's kind of funny how he flipped out, although shallow said the vod was wrong.

And it was the right vod
Spanker, considering you and I are the same person on these forumz, you should get your facts straight :p
in the yellow vs leta vid, i actually thought that yellow's play left a lot to be improved upon, especially his mutalisk control and controlling irradiated units - it's very rare to see mistakes like that nowadays

Yea, it was by no means 'perfect' but one can hardly expect perfection from every gamer. If you sit back and enjoy watching the game, its still fun to watch - and thats why this game is so good. Because you dont' have to play perfect to be entertaining.
