If he drafted Aldridge instead of Barnyarni he might still be in Toronto. One sign of his solid abilities as a sports executive is that his 2 "real jobs" have been in places that grant him a lot of autonomy.

The Raptors are not run by an emotional owner. MLSE never thinks in terms of 1 year. ever. Even this year the Raptor's 1st round draft position is improved or the same as it should be and they've had 3 1st round picks the last 2 years.

I think they found out no one wants oakafor, which I think is there own doing based on how they have played him and treated him I don't think people think much of him. Embid is too much of a enigma to trade, if he can stay healthy he will be the best big man in basketball, if he's Greg Oden part 2. So they prob felt they had to dump Noel. The Celts are smart(ish) to avoid going all in, not because of the Cavs, but because their team isn't very good.

Boston is a solidly above average team. But, that should not be enough to mortgage the future on a playoff run.

If the teacher's pension fund or whatever is intent on maximizing profits, then staying in contention for a long time is a better play rather than going all in on a short championship window. Owners who go all in for a championship are doing it for their ego. In the sports business, winning championships isn't exactly a profit maximizing move.

Orlando has really cut back on Biyombo's playing time lately. I wonder if any one will get fired for handing him $72 million. That's an expensive back up Center.

Biggest winners from the deadline for me were Houston and Toronto. Can't believe some raptor fans like jimmyj don't approve of Ujiri, one of the top GM's of the last few years for me (going back to DEN). I also liked the Noel deal like some people here. Carlisle will max the hell out of the player he is. Dallas always impresses with their ability to rebuild on the fly. They also have a top-notch medical staff, with way below-average injuries from their players. Good owner, good coach, good medical-staff, and good Don Nelson...

It turns out it was actually the Jazz who had made the offer. After the Kupchak/Buss firings though, when Magic called them to see if they wanted to get the deal done, they had decided to go in another direction. Another trade that Kupchak likely cost us by waiting too long...Utah would have given LAL a higher pick than Houston, but good job on Lakers getting the trade done quickly before Morey went somewhere else with it.
