Oh wait they had sustained success..... ya, i guess you missed that "pre-cashman" thing. for a great look at the Yankees "process" pre-cashman check out a book called "The Bronx Zoo" by Sparky Lyle and Peter Golenbock. It's pretty much how the team was run until MLB stepped in and barred Steinbrenner from being active in the baseball operations of the team. Lots of teams sacrifice long term for short term and been happening for decades including right now with 2 teams in the same division as the Raptors. He was certainly a really good PG, and his size and just general style of play was really appealing both out of U of I and on the Jazz. I don't know why we have to rewrite the books around, "Lulz D-Will vs. CP3". I think its apparent that the way the NBA has gone that he would not have kept up with CP3 even without his mystery decline, but if somehow instead of the Thibs defense wasn't what was figured out to be the best style, and instead it was something that hurt small ball (and D-Will stayed at his level) we would be laughing at CP3 people.
