Cavs are very deep now. Interesting to see how they use Deron and Bogut.

Huh, why?

Because you've fallen for the ever-alluring productive-short-PG. Simply put, CP3 in LeBron's body is the GOAT, by far; LeBron in CP3s is barely an 11th man. But that's not how the world is, thus LeBron is an all-time great, and CP3 has had 1-2 really great playoff series.

And Lebron isn't just good but not top-notch basketball skills packed into the perfect body. Some of his skills are as elite as you can find, regardless of size.

I find this assertion laughable

I can see what your argument is, mind you. I just think it's not that unlikely (well, if we're talking "likelihoods" at the GOAT level) that he was blessed with BOTH body and at least some elite skills, not just (mostly all) good ones.

It's not that interesting of a debate anyway because we don't have a 6'3 copy of Lebron at hand.

Durant info

some are saying the flop by Pachulia after being tugged on by an opponent caused the injury. if so, the irony is pretty sweet.

76ers fans who want to hang Colangelo from a tree are watching how fast the MRI results came in for Durant and are wondering where the MRI results for Embiid are...

if both Cleveland and Golden State enter the playoffs with less than 5 healthy starters it makes for a very interesting playoffs; even if they are healthy and return very late in the regular season and are not in top form that also makes things more interesting. What do the Cavs do if either Love or Smith are playing like garbage because they are not in game shape when they return? Love's wonky back sounds like the kind of injury that could easily come back.

interesting times.

what i'd love to see is some above average team go on a miami heat type run, where all their starters are playing great, in the middle of the playoffs.

Embiid has a torn meniscus; Colangelo says they are going to "protect his long term health".

Does this mean they are sewing up the meniscus and letting it heal so that it remains fully intact? if so, its a long way back for Embiid and a question as to whether Embiid will be ready for the start of next season.

If they just cut away a part of the meniscus then he can be ready in a definite short time table; his career and knee health is on a 15 year clock. 15 years after you compromise the meniscus patients start to get pain in their knees that will never go away.

This was the fork in the road Derrick Rose faced a few years ago. First time they sewed it up and Rose went the slow route to full recovery. Second time they just cut off the part of the meniscus that was torn and he came back much more quickly on a more definite timeline.

ESPN, the original meniscus tear was found in an MRI a few weeks ago and now they are saying it is "more pronounced".

If they do an actual repair and sew it back up the timeline for return is much slower and its a much less definite timetable. That is why Rose took so long to come back the first time. If they just cut it away you are back much more quickly. Which is why Rose came back the 2nd time so much faster. And that is why they had it nailed down to almost the day when Rose could start exercising again.

Maybe they'll try to avoid surgery altogether. If they can avoid surgery that's always the best path. As my grandfather says... "The body is its own best healer"

just read all the crap about Derrick Rose when he was talking about "not being in pain during business meetings after i retire". that was after his 1st meniscus tear. it explains it all there.

http://www.ahchealthenews.com/2015/03/24/an-experts-take-on-derrick-roses-meniscus-tear/

check out the bottom paragraph.

What is rehabilitation like after meniscus surgery?
If the meniscus is repaired with stitches – like Rose’s first meniscus surgery – then it needs time to heal.

Usually, the rehabilitation program consists of a patient not putting weight on the knee for four weeks, not bending the knee fully for four weeks, with the full recovery and return back to sports likely between four to six months.

If the meniscus is just cleaned up with the damaged tissue removed, this is called a partial meniscectomy – Rose’s second meniscus surgery. In this case, the recovery is much faster. A patient can put full weight on the knee right away, bend the knee fully right away, and the full recovery is between four and six weeks.

my mom's side is a medical family so i've learned all kinds of little ugly details you can't get from google.

also, "being a doctor" is no guarantee you'd know a great deal about recovering from a torn meniscus. your typical Physiotherapist will know 10X more about this stuff than a general practitioner physician.

Is this your info from reading past injury reports? Are you a doctor? Or do you have a source? It sounds reasonable but I have not read it wondering what I can.

Just wanted to say I heard Dr. Klapper talking about it on ESPN radio tonight . He starts off talking about Durant, but Embiid part is around 4 minutes in. He thinks they should stitch it up fyi.

the reason structures such and tendon, ligament and meniscus have such slow healing times is that they must be as strong as a muscle but no where near as large in size. blood vessels are weak structures. so how do you make a tendon as strong as muscle while being 1/10th as thick? very few blood vessels compared to a muscle. As a result, you get poor circulation to these structures which results in slow healing times.

This is why it takes months for meniscus to heal after being sewn together. Whereas, if you cut your skin and get stitches it heals in a couple of weeks.
