Kind of wonder who might be "next" Kind of surprising statistic that actually. A testament to how much of a true champion he was. Lotta respect for Rain, even when he seemed to struggle and slump for a bit he would bounce back in a huge way. Wish him the best, seemed like an extremely nice and humble guy as well. Not only is Rain one of only 3 players (Classic and Maru) to win 2 Starcraft 2 Starleagues, he was EXTREMELY close to winning 3. In SSL Season 3, he barely lost to herO 3-4 in the semifinals (damn PvP), and if game 7 had gone the other way, Rain would have faced ByuL in the finals - the same ByuL who he crushed 4-1 in the GSL Season 2 finals.

Rain is basicly at the peak of his career and without question one of the very best in sc2 currently. If he has medical issues now that prevent him from being the best, he should just take some time to recover and come back, it does not make sense to quit for good. Dunno, maybe Rain's bored of winning tournaments. Rain was was always so good that he may believe that this is the time to do it anyways.

He donated part of his liver to his dad.. Said it was hard for him to play games. Maybe he will come back after a long rest, I wouldnt be surprised. But donating part of your liver sounds like a good reason to retire for a bit

Rain was a raising BW star when SC2 hit the market. He was one of the few ones who managed to transfer his drive to a new game. Liver or other reasons, I feel that it is strange to retire forever because of temporary health issues, but I am not in his shoes, what do I know. The sad thing is, with each retirement of such a talented player SC2 becomes less and less entertaining (with all respect but HSC was painful to watch). Good luck Rain and if you ever have interest come and play some afreeca for us

Easily one of the most influential Protoss in the game, and I'm sure the writers know a lot more about Rain than most of us do, which would make this writeup really nice...

But donating part of your liver sounds like a good reason to retire for a bit As far as I know he did not retire because of the liver: "...My retirement has nothing to do with the operation. Actually, I was supposed to retire right after I left T1. However, mYi gave me a good offer. So I thought that I`d stay one more year for a foreign team, as a new experience. All of these had been planned before Flash decided his retirement."

He was always pretty solid though I do remember him losing some PvT to a terran who dropped him several times with speedvacs lol. Overall, he had quite the career in SCII. It's understandable that he'll take a long break or in this case, retire after such an operation and potentially lost passion for the game. But he was in a difficult situation, not being allowed to play in Proleague, planning to retire, his friends were retiring, the game was new and he would need to learn the skills again ... He might have wanted to stay in a foreign team one year more, but what purpose would it have after being banned from international competitions?

I thought it was only rumors he will and sightings of someone who is supposed to be him playing. Got a stream link if he already started?

Got a stream link if he already started? BigFan should update his post to prevent confusion. He's playing BW as the opponent of streamers i.e. he hasn't streamed himself (yet, according to Korean websites.) So yes, he has appeared in Afreeca but not streaming yet.
