I have no idea how big a sc2 player's salary of Rain's caliber would be though and how much money an Afreeca streamer receives. I imagine there'd be tough competition too with already lots of streamers and entertainment personalities like Larva and Britney but who knows.

For example, Moe has 3+ cars (including audis) and Summit has a GTR (goes for $100k). I would assume it is kind of the same for afreeca viewerships and donations over there in terms of the money disparity

It's hard to imagine he'd go back to Brood war just for the fun of the game. Comparing his career to Effort, Effort was in a slightly different boat where his sc2 career wasn't as successful really. I think Rain recently won a sc2 tournament too? Why? I know if you gave me a choice to race bicycles as a domestic pro in Europe and make $40k/year versus a "standard" job that paid well, say $100k/year, it would be an obvious no brainer choice to go race bikes. Streamers do well enough that it's not like going fro making good money to making no money and having to pick up another side job. It's more like going from a good paying job to one that pays the bills (unless your Shuttle, Bisu, terror, etc.) but that you enjoy much more. Of course, it's worth stating we don't know if that is the case with Rain. It may be he has just had enough gaming as a pro and wants to play causally on the side and supplement his income while focusing on other interests and letting his health return (partial liver donation).

A streamer with consistent concurrents in the 2000 can make a decent pay on Twitch via donations at least if he really works for it but I don't think he can make that kind of money. Obviously the numbers could look somewhat different for afreeca.

Broodwar in my opinion the only god-tier games to ever exist in eSport. Personally I would love to see Broodwar rise again. Remember its not important how old a game is for eSports, simply if it attracts viewers and sponsors. If companies are willing to invest into Broodwar tournament / the scene overall it might as well grow again ;-) I really like Starcraft 2 and I love my job but there is really no better feeling than playing Broodwar and being already good at t he game getting matched against a Korean or even a good Korean and he shits all across your face so hard you wonder what the hell just happened. I remember Yellow[ArnC] did 5 pool me on Destination and I completely shut it down and still his 1 HATCH MUTA (WHAT) killed me so hard because his muta control was ridiculous. Good times.

Good times. great to see that somebody like you, who is well established in Starcraft 2 as a commentator / host is still so passionate about broodwar. <3 Let's hope you are right and things will go well for SC:BW in the future. On topic: im really exited to see Rain play BW. He was quite a promising talent before he made the switch to sc2.

AWESOME comment! :D BW really deserves the recognition. IMO, it is THE esport game that defined what we see today.

I think Rain recently won a sc2 tournament too? Lot of sponsored match up, balloons(money), and sponsors like PCMALL. Example: Shuttle has about 500-1000 viewers. He earns avg of 9k~26k a month. I'm expecting rain to make at least 8k~12k a month since he is really famous among koreans. I mean you have a girl cam making 20k a month with just 100 viewers. I expect rain to have same.
