I consider myself a TL fanboy since I would prefer them to win over any other team given any circunstance, even when the other team deserves it, or when chances are stupidly slim.
But boy, I won't lie about Na'vi, they are one of the reasons that dragged me to the Dota 2 competitive scene. Is not about the plays, the strategies or their charming personalities. It was about this:
www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.youtube.com
The crowd, the chants, the hype... all of those things that makes people scream "GOAL" when we watch the FIFA World Cup, all that stuff that makes us stand from our chairs... the moments in the TI3 that made my father (56+ years old) become a fan of Na'vi and captain Puppey (and competitive Dota).
Maybe I was late to the hype train of Na'vi during TI2, but you know what? It was a good damn ride, and I enjoyed it LOTS. And with the departure of Puppey, we can say that the old Na'vi we knew is now over. The Na'vi that was like that guy you know that you can't hate, in fact if someone says you "I don't like that guy" you will be like "WTF is wrong with you?"..... In my opinion, Puppey was always the core of the team, Dendi is the Messi, Xboct the funny-drunk-gameplay 'Russian' guy... but Puppey was the one that kept them straight. I can be talking about this point for hours, but I need to go to bed now :p
Thank you Na'vi, for everything. I hope you, Puppey and Kuro, the best. They probably don't need us to wish them luck, Dendi, Funnik and Xboct are strong and talented Core players. Kuro and Puppey, in their side, have the skill and experience to overcome whatever they face in their dota future.
TY Teamliquid for reading!

I wasn't around until TI3 so it is really hard for me to picture Navi without the line up that just ended. I know they used to have Ars Art and Light of Heaven and maybe some other players, but when I think of Navi I think of Kuro Ppy Dendi XBOCT and Funn1k. I'm sure they will have success, and if they felt change needed to happen it probably did.

I totally agree with what you said. Everyone expects the post TI shuffle. But this seems like the end of an era...

Dendi is not Messi, are you freaking blind? Well maybe he is, the completely overrated awful player on the team that drags the whole team down. I guess he is Messi after all.

More to the point, Dendi might be a bit overrated, but that's mostly because he was actually one of the very best at some point, and people like to remember him that way

Dendi won TI1, was in the finals of TI2 and TI3. If you call that overrated, name another player with these accomplishments. And no, Puppy and Xboct do not count. People should really start to see the complete picture to judge someone (not saying, that they have the right to anyways) instead of the last 12 months.

Using the starcraft analogy, dendi seems a lot like MVP. In the early days he was completely dominant (winning TI, getting to the finals etc) but recently may not be playing as well as he always used to. However if we learned anything from watching MVP play starcraft its that being that good a frickin player is timeless. He'll still make the huge plays and get the hype train going until he decides to retire, and that's all there is to it

My bad at not explaining myself properly. Dendi being Messi is the same that saying, Dendi being Ronaldo. They are both top level players that can win matches by themselves, but their are also the 'face' of the team. The image, the one everyone wants to become.
People need idols. Personalities to follow, feelings to share, hopes to belive in. That is what the Na'vi squad gave us all these years, specially the trio Puppey-Dendi-Xboct. With this trio broken, the Na'vi new squad won't be the same as before in terms of what I said before. In terms of Dota itself, they are still super strong players that with 2 nice supports can do very well in the incoming season of competitive Dota.
TY again, TLers!

Navi without Puppey just isnt the same Navi for me anymore (I like Kuro and respect him a lot, but he just wasnt a stable part of navi for that long, so him leaving the team was more expected). Yes it makes sense, but i am really sad about it. Thank you for the memories! And GL to all (ex-)members.

Nice blog. Totally agree with what you are saying.
I'm gonna watch Na'Vi play in about 4 hours. I don't know what their lineup is yet. And I heard Dendi say that we should not expect much from their games since it's expected they wont have great chemistry yet. I can still cheer for Funn1k and Dendi. Just want to know if I can still cheer for the team.

|
Dendi was one of the best mids, and one of the most highly respected mids to ever grace the game. Right now, he's been overshadowed by the newer names, but he still deserves the recognition. Besides, if he ever switched to offlane playmaking heroes he'd do really well (just that Funnik is equally good there). Xboct should go mid and then they should've gotten another carry.

I think I've heard that analogy before somwhere!
But it's true. Dendi was dominant for a long time, and still is a top tier mid. Once a major part of the community considered him to be the best mid-player in the west, and that feeling lingers.
