Of all of the games that I have played, one's sound-track stands out above the rest.
That game is Unreal Tournament 2004.
Its soundtrack is energizing, 90% up-beat, and suits all the maps well. Given its futuristic setting I hope that SC2's sound-track will be similar.
In addition to being straightup awesome music, it is also tollerable to listen too again and again.
Here is the filefront link to the UT 2k4 sound-track http://files.filefront.com/kr ut2004pack1 bu/;3793020;;/fileinfo.html I reccomend Rankin, hyperblast, and morpheus 3 (the beginning is somewhat slow however). However all of songs are very good. Corrugation is also awesome, albeit somewhat funky.
So what do you think about the UT 2k4 sound-track, and what do you guys think this type of music being a possibility in RTS games such as the upcomming SC2.
And last but not least, please share some other awesome game-soundtracks.
By the way, I think the legality of distributing game music is kind of um, well, questionable. The publishers (or in rare cases somebody else) hold the rights to everything in the game, including the music. They release soundtracks to many of these games, in any case, so I'm sure they'd like to make money off of that. But it's the same as posting a YouTube link or something.
That said, bluelaguna's a good site to find a lot of RPG-related media.
For those interested, elsewhere on the Internet, direct game rips of the music are available, straight from the DVD/CD/cartridge/etc. These would be 100% accurate to the original. And they're also much smaller in size than mp3s, which bluelaguna and other sites host. For example, the file extension for the SNES music rips is SPC, and the extension for Playstation is PSF.
Entire soundtracks in PSF form, for example for Xenogears, should be easy to find. There's one good site (no longer updated) and mirrors which host those. I think SOTN though was never ripped by anyone, though, but many popular ones should be in this better format.
Also, the Unreal Tournament 2004 soundtrack was used in the dyo movie [s2] Zeroes to Heroes - it fit in pretty well there too. The songs he chose were Assault, DM1, Junkyard, Hyperblast-Redux, and Metallurgy
- The Terran song. - Diablo, tristram song. - The music of Deus EX like nanoblaze said, it owns ( Hong-kong theme ) - Old UT 99 music ( oshibori_probe said that his favourite is the Ut2004 music but i guess Ut99 > Ut2004 at least for the music ). Thx for the dl link btw ;D - Baldur's Gate main theme ( SO FUCKING EPIC !!!! ) - Some old console songs ( Zelda " a link to the past " , Marios, Tetris .. ) They are classics.
