Normal to classic is a 10% aim increase, crit from 0 to 10 and some more hp. most dont even gain anything besides hp between classic and impossible. So no it hardly "cheats" in the normal sense of the word.

The same thing that everyone who plays against the ai wants in any game. Alas they spent their ai budget on making awesome cut action scenes and voice acting i guess.

So it has superior intelligence, you get more enemies, and they are tougher. And still, that's not cheating lol. Cheating would be if the AI got the rolls it needed when it wanted, or they had maphack, and it doesn't have any of those.

They all get free cash in RTS ect because the cost of actually making an AI smart enough to challenge humans without cheats is astronomical. and as others have said. The AI is already as good as I would expect it to be. Aliens use cover and try to flank well enough.

For instance from normal to impossible, an alien will use grenades a lot more often to blow your cover (or if your units are grouped) so his friends can +40 aim you. Or in normal, aliens will often prioritize safe positioning over shooting you, in impossible if they can shoot you they'll shoot you (which makes a lot more sense as an actual alien strategy).

I really enjoyed EU, but I've been waiting to see if they fixed the bugs before throwing any more money at xcom. The expansion doesn't seem worth it to me if they don't fix some of the vision issues, flanked units sometimes not being counted as flanked, teleporting enemies, getting shot at by enemies you hadn't seen yet, enemies shooting at you when you can't see them (not sectopod), or that one FUCKING thin man who spawns at the end of the anna sing mission (the one with the large fountains) in the FUCKING open but still has FUCKING high cover. But we can keep the bug that lets my close-combat assault shoot despite having no ammo. I like that one.

It's not difficult, it's cpu or gpu consumming but not out of reach. However any good IA would require machine learning algorithms that would destroy the players after a few thousands iterations killing the fun for everyone. Thus every IA are hard-coded and there is a threshold to how much you can do with procedural IAs.

Also I think they have fixed the issue with flanked aliens not counted as being flanked. At least I havnt encountered it just yet in EW. The only remaining bug which is very annoying right now, is the one that happens on ramps, where LOS is really weird.

I once got that mission when I had mostly captains/majors and I still lost a guy to a bullshit thinman shot where he should NOT have had LoS.

But if you're used to killing everything with overwatch traps, you're not gonna get a lot of meld. Steady tactical advance is *slightly* more in vogue now.

2 tips tho is to look around at the edge of the fog, you can see some basic outlines in it near your actual vision and it can help you spot the meld container, esp nice at the start to help you commit your advance on the correct side. And secondly get someone with Mimic Skin as soon as you can. It lets him stay hidden and allows for aggressive scouting even on classic/impossible to help find Meld in time.

I tend to advance very slowly during missions and usually the meld is gone before I reach one of them. Do I have to change playstyle in this expansion? It depends, the best way is to just get enough for second month mimetic skin and from there you will have all the meld you want.

Mechtoids are now essentially the EU Sectopods, while the EW Sectopods are just beyond devestating. Even with Heavies and heat ammo (which also got nerfed) they're quite a task to take down now. Aggro 2 of them and gl beating the mission, even when I tried to kite them with my entire party they'll either chase you down and get decent shots/AOE off of you Oo you disable shot or emp it once and then you unload with plasma snipers, kinetic punch MEC's and assaults. I dont see how its any different.
