...are always welcome. From finding $100 bills to surprise sex, we all love a good unexpected surprise.
Just yesterday I had a pretty solid vending machine experience at the unit that *always* says "SOLD OUT" when I attempt to use it.
Inserted $1 (5 dimes + 2 quarters). Hit the diet coke button. Received no less than 4 bottles of diet coke, 8 cokes, 2 sprites, and 2 powerades. And to top it off it even gave me my money back after replacing my 5 dimes with 2 more quarters, knowing that I like to consolidate my money into larger denominations when possible.
A valuable lesson was learned too: Now I fully understand why the machine typically reads "SOLD OUT" for everything. It's because at that machine the policy is not "first come, first serve" but instead "first come, first take everything".
Has anyone experienced any welcome and unexpected surprises lately? This little vending machine situation ended up brightening my day. I was chuckling like a mad man as bottles rained from the machine. I lost it when after the last bottle fell I heard the jingle of my coins returning, as if it wasn't already a big enough vending machine fail

I got 2nd nationally in a hockey pool... Read the rules, no prize for being the first loser. Just got an email a couple months later (today) saying I had a prize waiting for me. I'm really, really hoping that the guy that got first overall just DQ'ed or something, but it's more likely that the prize is for getting 1st locally.

Got named employee of the year a few weeks back, was totally unexpected.
Boss promised me a gift card to certain adult entertainment online shop...
I never got my gift card.
I'm okay with that.

Ooo very nice. Is a hockey pool sort of like fantasy sport leagues in the US with cash prizes? Good luck on that. That'll be like a surprise within a surprise if something juicy awaits

I won money in vegas, got a raise at work, plus a bonus. Still waiting for the surprise sex.

I'm sorry, but when you say "surprise sex" all I think of is the phrase, "It's not rape! It's surprise sex!"

The real question is did you catch abra before he teleports away. That's the real unexpected surprise.

I never get any unexpected surprises. My whole life is pretty routine right now.

And here I thought that "surprise" implied "unexpected". But apparently it's enough if it's "sudden" or "with a feeling as if unexpected". What an unexpected surprise!

What an unexpected surprise! I see your point, hah. What I meant was surprises that are peculiar, uncommon and funny as opposed to more expected surprises, such as receiving an unannounced call from a traveling friend or getting a raise after doing good work for a consistent period of time -- while the day these things happen might surprise you, it's not too unexpected or noteworthy. Maybe a better title would be strange/awesome surprises

This one only covered the duration of the playoffs. You had a certain amount of money and could pick players, who cost whatever their yearly cap hit is... There were a couple other rules, like limited amount of players at each position/conference, trading fees, etc... I missed out on the win by 1 stinking goal in the very last game.
When Lucic scored that goal, I could practically feel those thousands of dollars slip away through my fingers like sand. I swore... loudly. Repeatedly. It was therapeutic but I'm still bitter. Let's hope the guy that won DQ'ed or that they couldn't get in contact with him!

This raises a very cliched question though. Is it morally right to take the pop or contact the owners to report the problem? It would seem your "lucky accident" is actually petty theft.

I checked the machine for a call number, and couldn't find one easily enough. If one was pasted somewhere on the machine then it was entirely too difficult to find.
A guy actually watched the whole thing unfold since it made quite a bit of noise (plus my laughter). Even if I wanted to be sneaky, I still felt sketchy about just taking them (especially with a witness I didn't know being there). I ended up asking him "what should I do, there's no number to call?" -- "Uhhh... I'd just take em man, if you leave em there someone else is gonna pick them up" --- "K just making sure you weren't about to call the po, thanks!" (conversation was way different, but that paraphrases it)
But yeah. Minor pangs of guilt. Whatevs tho
