Hay TL, do any of you guys have any experience learning korean? I can't seem to find any classes around my area to go to so it looks like I'll have to teach myself.
I know to stay away from programs like rosetta stone, but what about other things online? Any recommended sites to go to?
Please be aware this is for the a extreme beginner. I have nothing to do for 8months so I wanna start learning a new language. Being SC2 one of my favorite esports korean seems to be the best way to go!
Positive feedback only please! Thanks~

talktomeinkorean.com is a great site that provides free in depth lessons on just about everything you'll need to get started.

I'm doing TTMIK (talktomeinkorean) level 5 now and together with some practice from watching Eagle's stream it's more than enough. It's made by young Korean native speakers with perfect English skills so it's up to date and probably the closest you can get to having an educated korean friend to help you with the language. I listen to a lesson or two every morning while having breakfast and learn tons of korean If you're lazy like me it might be your saving grace.

How is your experience with learning new languages in general? Did you ever have to learn a language in school where you pretty much had to start from the ground up?

I'm also happy to help with Korean questions. I teach Korean online and wrote a book for learning Korean as well.

Seemile.com is really good for the basics.

I am learning Korean through classes from a native speaker. However, only two hours per week and that's not enough, I have to build my own vocabulary. There is a great site for learning Korean words with phrases and pronunciation http://www.learnkoreanwords.com/ but that site seems doesn't update for a long time. If you prefer to study your own, go to http://www.howtostudykorean.com/. I think that site is better than TTMIK. Lastly, for beginner, you might want to try Seoul University Korean language learning program (which I think is the best among all) - The Click Korean program. In addition, check out Sogang Korean Program by Sogang University or Let’s Learn Korean (New) by KBS WORLD Radio. My advice would be to go to Korea and learn by speaking with people. If that doesn't work then you could try to find a regular practice partner where you can learn a few words every week, then try to speak them when you meet up. After six months you may be able to string some sentences together, which in my opinion would prove you've come a long way! I sincerely hope it goes well for you!
