who is yan?
He was the top (non-Korean, and sometimes overall) 2v2 player on iccup for at least a few seasons.
edit: nice update

Some other random stuff that I remember: The four gateways were merged pre-1.08. One classic player that I haven't seen mentioned is Didi8[BG]. One of the first reps I ever saw was him beating Elky PvT on LT with carriers. He also played a crazy game against Boxer at one of the earlier WCGs (probably 2002). He went on to play WC3 NE and I have no idea what he's up to these days. A good guess would be poker. People remember Lastshadow rigging maps, but before that there was this guy known as Stratus (that's the name that I remember, but it could be Stratux or something similar) who rigged LT in favour of P by making everything cheaper and decreasing build times. He got away with it for a while by refusing to play PvP (saying that it was a boring mu) and by naming the actual file Zergling blood.scm so that no one would ever think to check even when they suspected him of some immoral actions. I recall he was #1 on the broodwar.com ladder until his shenanigans were uncovered.

Sadly, Nazgul was zerg for this game so I don't think it actually counts. ;p

Did you know? When MorroW started playing BW he always uploaded replays that he won on gosugamers.net(he was REAAAAAAALLY young and new to the game), i didnt like that so we didnt get along for a long time, now i love him. wtf man i was stone hard so much so now alot of progamers realized that was really cool (lol) and most progamers upload replay packs of themselves and says its for the fans. hahaha sidenote, i never knew tt1 as a hacker, just his 3nexus on 1gate abuse when i was attempting to learn the flash build for the 1000th time. he told me i played too predictable, i told him this is how i should play to become good. good times :D

I remember almost all of the names mentioned here. I hung out regularly in ~nohunters, x17, and Kali, read battlereports.com religiously, and was even featured in a battlereport in 2000 (12 years ago - can't believe it's been that long). I remember: the first time seeing the real Grrrr join a channel I was in and being starstruck because he was just about the best in the world at the time, I remember reading 1st~Tsunami's starcraft website because it had a ton of great articles, I remember being BMed in a game by SuperCondomUser, I remember reading sclegacy every day, I remember logging into Kali for the first time and being awed by all the good players there, I remember chatting in broken english with the Russian orky players like Asmodey and Soul (who became a successful poker player in his own right, 2nd place at WSOP a couple years ago). I was always on the outside looking in, though, since I didn't have near enough skill to keep up with the top players at the time. There were no replays back then, or streams or VODs, so the top players were all extremely talented and smart (or hacked). I looked up to them a lot and was just good enough that I could get games against some of them. Since there was no formal matchmaking system and the b.net ladder was full of hackers, it was very hard to get good players to even play against you if you were unknown, and I never won enough against good players to really prove myself. But it was okay - those days are still some of the best memories of my gaming life.
