I opened facebook today and noticed my homepage was filled with congratulation posts to one my friends from long ago. We haven't spoken in maybe 4 years, but once upon a time we were the best of friends. Curious, I decided to see what the fuss was about and to my amazement I see that he had been accepted into his residency of cardiology (for those not too familar with medical school residencies, if you're accepted into any specialty you are automatically A-teamer, but cardiology = S-class; family medicine = B-teamer, but at the end of the day you're still a pro). He's graduating medical school this year and next year he will begin training as a cardiologist.
Suddenly, I get flashes of our high school days. If you had known him in high school, you would never have guessed he would end up being a cardiologist. You see, we were the two "idiots" in class, but I use this term lightly. I remember during physics class we would play the "penis game" where we would alternate saying "penis" once, but with each subsequent cycle we would say it louder and louder. In French class, we learned various pen spinning tricks, but during the learning process we would drop our pens every 5 seconds and the teacher would kick us out for making too much noise. We were the smart asses in math class that would literally circle "x" when asked to isolate x. Outside of class, we would play BW until sunrise (on weekends, of course). In fact, I actually met him after catching him browse tl.net in the library during lunch! We spent the better part of our childhoods analyzing and emulating BW pros; I recall him calling me one day saying "OMG YOU HAVE TO COME HERE AND SEE THIS" so I grabbed my bike and raced to his house. He then proceeded to open a FPV of Aarang (sp?) and my jaw dropped in amazement as I had never seen anybody move so fast before.
And now he's going to be a cardiologist. Needless to say I'm completely thrilled for him. I contribute to the sea of congratulatory posts and within seconds he replies: "HEY! Thanks man! How are you? BW sometime?... you know... for old times sake?"
I grinned. "haha, sure!"
tl;dr - There's a future cardiologist lurking tl.net right now!
edit: Arang!!

It really does! He was never the genius type either, but he knew what he wanted and worked hard for it.
I hope the same goes to you. GL going pro!

My dad is a cardiologist, tell your friend to be prepared to have 0 life. My dad loves his job and would never do anything else, but he works from 6am to anywhere between 5 and 9pm a day, and weekends he goes in to do paperwork and what not. I always love success stories, congrats to him man.

A great story.
I'll keep working hard in college, lol. Right now though, all I want is to make it to Friday (and Spring Break).
