Going to Taiwan next week for about 15-16 days with the GF so she can visit her family, and I was wondering if foreigners are able to visit the gaming centers of the pro teams there?
http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Taiwan_eSports_League
The 5 Official TeSL Teams:
Gama Bears Wayi Spider Xpec Ironmen Tt Apollos Taoyuan Jets
I am going to be in Taoyaun, Taipei, and a few other smaller towns for a few days each. I know where Taoyaun is however I believe the Jets team is current inactive? I believe Gama Bears/Tt Apollos are the biggest teams in Taiwan. Are either of these located in Taipei?
The TeSL website: http://www.esports.com.tw/2011/index.html , and I guess I could just ask my GF to translate and maybe find out the addresses/locations but she hates that I play computer games (lol). I'm probably going to sneak to one when shes hanging out with her friends or something.
Any information would be very helpful.
Thanks!
EDIT: Also I guess I'm probably going to pick up a TW version of the game. Do I have to install it/register it while in TW, or can I just bring the TW copy of the game back to the states and install it on my main computer? Then it will know to connect to TW automatically right? -_-a thx

I get a 404 from your link. I live in Taipei and I'd be glad to help you out as much as I can, though I know absolutely nothing about the SC2 scene. Mostly I can be useful in helping you translate/find stuff.

sry, there was a " , " after the link that was making it to be broken.
Well I don't know, if you're not busy maybe go to that website, try to find a 'teams' section and see if it has their location. Or something like visiting or something.
Wow thanks so much!! <3<3<3 I'll be in Taipei on Thursday. :D

Looks like I found their locations on each teams facebook pages however I'm not sure if these are legit locations or not. (Also if I'm even allowed to walk right up herp derp and try to visit).

Well, there isn't any upcoming match so that's out of the picture... unfortunately, they're pretty vague about visiting or fanmeets on their sites. Will have to look into it more closely.

Thanks for the help funnytoss! It's okay don't worry about it. Can you take a look at those address's above and make sure they seem correct? I google mapped most of them and some of them look like they could be the right places, while others look like its in the middle of no where.
Thanks for your help

You probably figured this out from the maps already, but I'll lay it out anyway:
Gama Bear - interesting, I was just in the area today. It's not in the middle of nowhere either, close to an MRT station. (Dingxi 頂溪) Xpec Ironman - seems easy enough to get to as well, nearer to the city. Also next to a MRT station. (Songjiang Nanjing 松江南京) Taoyuan Jet - relatively easy to find, it's right next to the MRT station. (Xihu 西湖) That said, this one is a bit farther away from the others and in a more industrial area (Neihu). This would be a last resort. Interestingly, though the team name is "Taoyuan Jet", it's nowhere near Taoyuan. Maybe because the international airport is named Taoyuan...
Not sure about Tt Apollo, even their own Bing link can't figure out exactly which location it is. The above three would be your best bets.

Thanks so much Funnytoss! You're the man.

This is your lucky day:

Apparently the 2012 Esports Taiwan Open Winter Grand Finals is being held 1/14 and 1/15! You can buy tickets at any 7-11. The location is at National Taipei University. (on a side note, 1/14 is Election Day) It's Apollo vs the Spiders. TBH, I don't actually watch any SC2 at all but I'd be up for going with you on the 14th if you want. I'm not entirely sure if I can make it (scheduling issues) but just an FYI. 300NT for a first floor spot, 150NT for a second floor spot. Can't promise anything since it does say there are a limited number of tickets and it's less than a week away, but you should really give it a shot.
If you wanna go, the easiest way is to go to the Zhongshan Jr High school MRT station.
Oh, and regarding the Taiwan version of SC2... I *think* you can install it wherever you want.

Bro, I love you.
I think United States Currency and Taiwanese is 1/30 rate? So 300 NT is only like 10 dollars U.S. correct?
It should be easy to get to the National Taipei University. The thing is I can't buy the tickets until I'm in Taiwan and have discussed this with the GF. I promised her I'd go meet some of her friends and I don't know the dates yet, however this is pretty cool.
Thanks so much for all the information. Yes if we meet up I will have to buy you a drink or something. :D

I linked this to the Gamania team manager, so maybe he'll PM you or something.
Either way, have fun :D

Taiwan Open is this weekend which is the TeSL Championship. The Tt Apollos house is in the Shengkeng District so it's pretty far outside of Taipei. They train twice a week at Thermaltake HQ in Neihu but the days vary.
Also the Taoyuan Jets were disbanded to beef up Wayi Spider's roster (politics since Wayi owns the league, it was quite controversial).

Did you visit any teams or anything?
thx!

Didn't go to the event, but watching TeSL on live TV right now. This is so sweet. Nifi vs AK.
I honestly don't know why this doesn't get more credit. Kind of sad.

The TV network and the TeSL have a deal which presumably provides most of their cash flow. Thus the TeSL can't really work out a deal to do online streaming so anyone outside of Taiwan has to watch someone's restream of the TV feed which is why nobody really gets to see it =/
