Hey guys, I'm a new LoL player, that played a ton against AI before even thinking of playing against real people. I have at least 1 of each role (AD carry, AP carry, tank, support, jungler) and have read guides on all of them, because that's what people told me to do. I'm the only person at my level who even knows what a guide is, though, so I'm usually better than the rest of my team.
I had just dinged level 12, and wanted to try out flash (since every guide ever screams at you to get flash because it's awesome). I went into a game, and saw my team picking annie, vlad, and warwick, so I think "well the 5th guy will probably take an AD carry (people at my level never take anything but carries, so I never get to play tristana or annie), and ww might just jungle, so I have to choose between a soraka and Cho'gath." Since Cho'gath was my newest character, I picked him. I asked for mid in chat (because even though my heart wanted ww to jungle, my brain knew he wouldn't, so mid would be the only solo lane), and they said sure.
We were all done choosing, with our 5th player having chosen teemo (btw teemo if you're reading this, you're awesome, add me). The loading screen comes up, and I can see the teams.
It was our team, comprised of teemo, warwick, annie, cho'gath, and vladmir, against their team, comprised of Olaf, Graves (how did he get graves? he's not f2p, did he actually pay before even getting to level 20?), Master Yi, Jax, and corki. Instantly I felt like jumping out of my seat and screaming "WE WON", but I knew better. This was a low level team, so they probably wouldn't follow my adivce and get frozen heart early against an all AD team. Nevertheless, I suggested the idea, and recieved a stunning "ok" from one of them.
I went mid, and found out that I would be laning against Graves. I started harassing him with my Q while last hitting minions, and he reacted by standing in the dust and constantly missing his buckshot. For all of you high level folks facepalming out there, I was actually impressed he knew how to cast buckshot. He was good for a level 12, and that's not me being sarcastic.
By level 2, I forced him to recall back (already showing how good he is, most players don't recall back when they're hurt and feed me first blood while I'm at max hp). By the time he got back, I was level 3 against his level 2. I unleashed some Ws and Qs on his face to make him recall a second time, while getting to level 4 and noticing that I have 1200 gold, enough for Mercury's treads. I recalled back to get the boots, and came back to see him beating on my tower. One Q, a couple of E splashes that he stood in while I was last hitting minions and a W later, he died, and let me get to level 6 and feast a minion.
I got 1 more stack of feast by teh time he came back, and continued harassing him while gaining creep kills. Now, I know it sounds like I'm bragging, but the truth is that he played pretty well. He got me to low health a couple of times, got a good amount of creep kills, and after his first death figured out what that dust cloud was that was constantly underneath him. Anyways, I continued farming, until I had 6 stacks of feast and I was ambushed by two people: a level 8 Master Yi and a level 11 Graves, against me, a level 13 Cho'gath with 6 feast stacks. Much like the honey badger, I just didn't give a shit. I cleaned up master Yi, forced Graves to recall, then saw the following little gem:
whatever his name was (Master Yi) has quit! whatever his name was (Master Yi) has left the game!
Yep, master yi had rage quit after his gank failed miserably. Once again, High level players are probably facepalming, but this is pretty normal at my level. After killing master yi, though, I did have enough money for a Glacial Shroud to start working towards a Frozen Heart. On my way back to lane, I picked up blue, and someone pinged the map. Naturally, I came to help. That's when I noticed what teemo had just pinged; Teemo had just pinged baron. "Baron?" I said in chat, then thought about it, and realized we could probably take him down, and since we're winning, there's no real reason not to. "good idea." Teemo and warwick were picking up red, annie, was trying to get a Jax kill on bottom, and vladmir was dead, but eventually we got the team together for Baron. A successful Baron kill later, we charged to their base.
Naturally their entire team of lower levels focus fired teh huge scary beast covering their entire screen, while the rest of my team killed them. I recalled to get a frozen heart, then charged into their base once again, and once they saw the frozen heart debuff on all 5 of them they surrendered, a very rare appearance in this level of game.
There was no real reason to write this blog, I just was really excited about having a relatively competent team for once.

Ah the joy of having competent teams. Well enjoy it you prolly wont have one for a while

hahaha congratulations. I know it can feel like seeing a blue moon when you get a nice team together and stuff goes your way. I hope you have as much luck in the future

This is why it's also suggested you organize a five man together. Having a competent team at all time is a great feeling in LoL, plus over time your team chemistry will improve, eventually you'll forget what it was like NOT to have a competent team. :p
Be warned though, the system tends to match you up against other 5 man premades. Gl hf!

Hope you enjoyed having a good team, because it'll be a long ass time before you get another one.

Haha, having a good team can be really rewarding!
Feel free to add me in game if you ever want someone to play with (though my ELO is going to drag you up a bit).
Riku is my SN.

ewww lol easiest way to get good at games is to just play people When i played LoL it only took like 20 games b4 i was already raping kids, and the only pc games ive ever played are sc1/sc2 and diablo lol.
I't is nice when the team listens though and actually pulls through, or when some 1 rage quits lol

so why would you buy mercury treads when they are AD heroes? Brag about knowing to rush frozen heart and then buy dumb boots. Plus there are definitely better items that frozen heart.

I play with a team in half my games. We win most of our games against non arranged.
Thornmail is better than frozen heart if the enemy team is focusing you. You don't need the extra mana so it's a waste of gold. There's no point to reading guides if you understand why certain items are better for certain situations.

Well at least give him credit for knowing to build anti-ad at level 12, lol. Most level 12s probably wouldn't even know what an ad role is lolololololol.
But yeah, OP, if you're gonna tank cho, or be tanking in general, thornmail is infinitely better than frozen heart, because it deals damage back to the attacker. What's better, a dead enemy champ or a living but slowed enemy champ? Exactly.

Idk, all of my knowledge of LoL is from a couple of guides I read, and the cho'gath build that I found said that thornmail is a great item on any tank except cho'gath.
EDIT: Nope, chuck testa. He said that warmog's armor is good on any tank except cho'gath, not thornmail ><

Though I don't know very much about LoL from what I understand he got frozen heart because of the CDR. 20% CDR means more CC, which means a more effective tank (once again, I am only guessing, and all of my knowledge is from guides)

as for which items are better in which situations, that's something you will learn with practice.
