Hey,
so after 18 months of playing sc2 more or less actively 2 days ago I decided to come back to iCCup with some old clanmates and rebuild our old clan, cuz BW is just the best game ever made.
Any specific advice on how to get back in shape? Just playing as much as possible? Or is there any way to speed things up without playing 24/7 2 months and still being worse than before? ;P
I was B- toss with rather bad macro and good micro when I quit bw, now it feels like my macro is D- and my micro isn’t anywhere near as good as it used to be either. I just wanna select 50 units at a time and am surprised that my high templars can’t storm then or that my goons bug etc. when I try to micro them (sooo challenging, I love it). Meta game seems to be ok, strats are still in my head, just execution is rly rly bad.
Also wanna use this blog to ask if any old BoB players or friends of the clan still out there that I haven’t reached on fb/msn or wherever, you’re (and everyone else as well ofc) always welcome in op blood_ !! ChiWoo[BoB] Chishiki[BoB] HighFish[BoB] Prometheus[BoB and gheddo[BoB]back so far, more to come! gonna play icc-cl and bwcl and try to get activity up for many nice intern games+skype sessions.
Well looking forward to your replies, eventhough I guess that “play as much as possible” will prolly be the common answer.

Always nice to see another person playing BW!
I don't know if I would be of help, but if you go to op teamliquid, there are quite a few players there sometimes who are willing to play a few games.

I love to watch BW and [insert shittalk about recent SC2 updates], but is there a way to get good at BW these days? I feel like all the players that stayed with BW during all these years and gods and there's no place for old newcomers like me. I mean, I haven't tried, but I'm sure I would get completely obliterated at BW on ICCUP even though I'm decent at RTS games weither it was SC2 or WC3. Any newb friendly servers?

ty guys, yeah guess there is no easy win to come back. guess Micro/Multitasking Maps to get back the speed and just 1v1 ladder/intern/op teamliquid is the way to go.
and @bio: yay! :D
@fadetowhite: yeah but I guess anyway I'm more into enjoying the game than hardcore train as before, but in case there rly are too few ppl on iCCUp I'll surely test fishclan, korean guy on my team is active there and has clan on that server, too, but for the moment iCCup must be enough :p
|
@Petitcrabe: hmm I've got no clue about the other servers, there used to be quite many newb gamers on the normal battlenet servers, especially if you start with stuff like 2v2 LT NOOB (that's what i did a few years ago, then 1v1 after like 1-2 months on bnet), eventhough u must be prepared for some ally flames, just don't let it get to you^^
for example yesterday i got flamed by random-ally in 2v2 D game. I surely played bad but my ally was even worse... Some ppl use 2v2 and blaming their ally as an excuse for a lack of skill, just don't care ;p
if you got any BW knowledge after a time + maybe watch some replays and stuff iCCup D-/E rank might be quite ok, dunno about that though, BW as a newcomer must be rly rly hard.

I remember trying to get back into bw from wc3. This was a while back. It was extremely difficult. I was too used to things like the wc3 interface (alt and forcegrouping buildings, etc) as well as the vastly different playstyle (intense focus on the immediate in wc3 vs the multitask juggling in sc2). Although I noticed my APM had gone significantly up, it was strictly due to the fact that I was trying to play as fast as I had in the past, which led to a ton of misclicking. It's probably best to not force things and be efficient with your apm when you're out of practice and slowly ramp it up(but I'm no expert on this).
bw's a tough game to return to imo because practice and mechanics are so crucial. But if you can overcome that initial frustration of misclicking, wondering why units aren't doing what you're telling them to do, and just generally wasting mental energy on things that long ago you were doing purely on instinct, then it will only get easier from there.
I regret not continuing with bw at times but at the same time it's so difficult to maintain skill in that game while taking breaks. Best of luck.
