So a few days ago I posted a help me topic about my tvz. Which was amazing because a bunch of people wrote a ton to help me out and I really appreciate it! I did end up winning a few tvz's after taking that help on board which was nice. So now I'm rank 1 in my platinum division and playing diamond people over half the time. I beat some of them and lose badly to others.
One problem I'm having is that once you go on winning streaks, the game punishes you for winning. And fucks you buy putting you up against players who it knows are going to kick the shit through you. So now I know starcraft II as 'the game that punishes you for winning'.
Tonight I lost about 8 games in a row. Lots being to zergs bane busting my entrance and 1a'ing into my base. How the hell is that possible to scout? I mean, I see where he is and I try to see how many gasses but that doesn't matter. I can't just keep a constant scan going over his base, I have no idea how to see that shit coming or how to get seige up in time. Absolutely fucking ridiculous.
Another was against a zerg who I had more workers than and supply than but still lost because I forgot upgrades. Was a close game and I actually had fun playing it which was a nice change to my insane rage when I lose.
Hopefully I can ride through this rough patch and make it into diamond and then lose a bunch all over again because I will have won a few consecutive games.

I've heard the bnet system tries to make your win rate 50% in the long run. I can't confirm though, as I've not played enough. Only 200 games in this season so far.

Yeah I think that's the idea. I just wish it did it on a more consistent basis rather than let me get a bunch of wins then stomp on my spirit when it's trying to balance it out.

I feel your pain. However, when I face diamond players, I lose to DT rushes, and fucking bullshit cheese. I clearly have far superior micro and macro than my platinum league opponents, as evident by my W/L ratio, and my ranking:wins compared to the rest of my divisions ranking:wins, but literally 40-50% of the time, I get cheesed, or all-in'd with something retarded.
The moral of the story: try to keep your head up. I rage harder than IdrA or LaLush, mark my word. But I try my best to just keep going with it, and eventually overcome this pathetic cheesy division I am forced into. The diamond's that I play against, I beat half, but the other half results in a cheese all-in, and matchmaking puts me back against Platinum right afterwards. ;_;

Currently stuck in Plat myself, even though I tasted Diamond glory briefly last month... I know that feel man. Keep on it, you'll get there!

Lol this post made me laugh so hard. I'm a greedy zerg player myself but all-ins and cheeses are part of the game, they make it balanced.
The reason you win every macro game and lose every cheese is just because you play way to greedy. Giving you an advantage when you go into a macro game and giving your oppenent an edge when you go in a short game.
When i learned to punish greedy builds it made my life a lot easier in ZvP, in the current metagame protoss plays a lot more safe after all those roach/ling all ins and now it is possible to go into a macro game, it was a lot harder before because they had a (slight) advantage with certain builds.

I like how platinum players think the only reason they are in platinum is because of cheeses and alli-ns. That they actually belong in the promised land of master( or whatever) league. Here's a shocker, there will always be cheeses and all-ins up to the highest level tournaments. Not being able to deal with them is just as bad as having bad macro/micro/bo's etc.
I'm pretty sure most of you who complain about cheese suck at scouting and/or have bad builds.
|
Learn to deal with the cheese man, you'll get used to it.
Btw, did ladder just got a lot harder? In season 1 i was about mid diamond, I stopped playing for a while because I didn't have a stable internet. Recently i started playing again and I got placed in fucking gold league. ( I played like 5 practice games before jumping into my placement matches)
So yeah.. are people learning how to play or am I sucking hard? Because i remember a year ago gold league was pretty terrible.

Just because someone is higher league doesn't mean they won't cheese. Plenty of people cheese in diamond and masters as well every 10 or so games to spice it up.

Holy mackeral! The blizzard system never places you against people they know will DESTROY you. They place you against people you put up a great fight against and win 50/50. They dont want you to be kicking the shit out of your average plat player so they match you diamond players so you have a good game. Not every game is a walkover.
Regarding how to stop the baneling bust, if you scout 1 base/2base alot of gas and alot of lings with no spines or a third, it can indicate banes. I would make a barracks wall to stop this all-in. In regard to the no upgrade game, well you lost because you had no upgrades. It isn't balance or you playing poorly, its just that without upgrades you can lose even if you are ahead.

Yeah hopefully I can get in to scout the gasses in the future. Just very annoying to see all those banes walking up the ramp and knowing the game is already over T.T
And that other game I enjoyed playing but was a little disappointed in myself for not getting the ups sooner Oh well, always next time

I don't use a second gas when i'm baneling busting low eco close positions... I can still win from diamonds and low masters (with this low gas bust).
You should maybe push out a little with some marines to get some scouting info, in the early game there is no reason to have more than 4-8 lings, if he does, you know what's coming.
You can also try on making your builds baneling proof (extra bunker/more rax before expansion/better building placement) against your opponents.
If you have an account on the EU server i would gladly help you and baneling bust you a few times until you found the hang of holding it off.

Thanks for the offer buddy but I'm only on the SEA and US servers at the moment. I will take your tips though because I look at my replay and I saw a ton of lings and no spines which points to a bust when I think about it. Cheers

lol cry harder.
No scratch that, instead of crying about how you cant handle cheese you could practice stopping it?
No one thing is impossible to stop, its just learning from mistakes you made.

"The game that punishes you for doing better" is totally silly
They don't put you against people who are gueranteed to crush you, they put you against players it thinks are your skill level. If you're having so much difficulty playing better players than usual, you shouldn't want to get into diamond. Also, if they were to leave you where you were, it wouldn't be fair to everyone else

Diamond has been full of cheesy players so far... Today I've run into countless all-ins from protoss as well as the cheesiest of the cheese strats like cannon rush into DTs =_=. Luckily today I had a day off from work so I was in a good mood and was able to think clearly for myself and win *phew*. Zergs as well in ZvZ have been doing some stupid roach heavy comps which are just obnoxious as hell because they'll just make a ton of roaches and nothing else and 1a hoping to win while I'm trying to build an economy and bring out a few infestors. 5-6 Spine crawlers sure does the trick...
Terran is surprisingly standard this season, wtf is going on.
