Hey, I'm using virtual audio cable to reroute audio for streaming StarCraft2. I'm using 2 cables and 3 audio repeaters to get the desired effects. I've set my system default audio to Virtual Cable 2, so that my browser and everything else goes to cable 2. I've set it up like this:
Browser/game/etc -> Cable 2 Cable 2 -> Headphones Cable 2 -> Cable 1 Microphone -> Cable 1 Cable 1 -> Stream
Here's an image to aid in understanding:
As you can see, this allows me to get all audio to go to the stream, and all audio minus my microphone going back to my headphones. This used to work perfectly.
Now I've got two problems: 1) When I change my system default from "SB Live! 24 bit"(my sound card) to "Virtual Cable 2", and then start SC2, the only output option in SC2 is "Default" -- all of the other options are gone -- and I receive no game audio, even with the audio repeater running perfectly (I can test by playing music through my browser, to make sure audio repeater is working).
I used to be able to get SC2 audio, but now I can't. I have no idea why. I did upgrade from version 4.01 to 4.10.
2) I get blue screens pretty often when changing audio settings, when using audio repeater.
Other information: -I'm using windows XP home edition. -I have to use 2 cables. I can not use 1 cable. This is because sending "SB Live! 24 bit"/"What u hear" into cable 1 does not work. No audio is received by the stream if I do that, ever. I also do not have stereo mix, and never have. -I've tried using cable 1, it doesn't work just the same.
So, basically, either I set system default back to my sound card before opening SC2 so that I can hear game sound (but stream viewers can't), or I leave it on virtual cable and no one can hear game sound.
Any help greatly appreciated. PC audio has always been, by far, the most frustrating thing I've ever dealt with.

I should also probably note that my setup with VAC probably doesn't even matter. The problem is that SC2 refuses to send audio to cable 1 and cable 2, for some reason, and that changing my system output default away from my sound card causes me to lose output options inside of SC2. I just included all relevant information just in case.

idk how to help but omg are you THE buddhist from wow?
why did you quit man, my friend actually almost cried when you left the game, and he wasnt even playing at that time anymore!
i hope you come your problem continues so that you quit sc2 and come back to wow!!!

Try to set Starcraft 2 to "Line 1" as output directly. There should be an option for that. I use the same method to get "stereomix" without it being supported by my soundcard.
The other thing i often run into is that VAC is doing something wrong, or maybe its my windows. Sometimes i dont need to set Line2->headphones because it already is jusing line 2 for playback, i dont actually know WHY this is happening but it´s easily fixed by resetting my default audio device to normal and back to line1 or 2 again.

Yeah, he's the real Buddhist. No sarcasm there btw, I have him on facebook.

Bro, like I said, when I set my system default output to anything that isn't my soundcard, I can't choose the output device in SC2, my only option is "Default". Which SHOULD be ok. If I do set my windows default to my soundcard, I can then select "virtual cable 2" in SC2, but it still doesn't work. To put it simply, when I set SC2's output device to anything that isn't my soundcard, it does not work.
I've tried switch everything back and forth numerous times. Also, I've found in the past that audio repeater just doesn't work for no apparent reason some times, and you just have to restart it. That isn't the case atm.

I think I've read and understood your post, but I'm not entirely sure. I have one question for you before I dig further into this.

Why do you change the default sound device? I'm familiar with the concept, but what do you benefit from this?

Sorry for the obvious answer here, but try downgrading and see if it stops - then you have the answer. Did it use to crash for you? Does the upgrade give you something you need? Otherwise stay on 4.01 for the time being.

I would say you should use Stereo Mix, set your default playback to speakers, and make it so that whatever you're using to listen to speaker sounds is what's playing back by Stereo Mix. Route microphone and stereo mix into line 1, let line 1 be the sound that the stream picks up.
I know you haven't used Stereo Mix or anything before, but it's worth a try.

I'm not sure "Stereo Mix" will provide anything for the OP, but I guess it's worth a shot to simplify the setup. The main question is whether it is supported for his hardware on WinXP.
I found this on a Vista forum:
The "What U Hear" feature for Sound Blaster Audigy SE/LS/Live!24 bit cards had changed since the latest driver update. The previous version of Windows Vista driver (SB24_VTDRV_LB_1_04_0065A.exe) for Sound Blaster Audigy SE/LS/Live!24 bit has an option for recording with "What U Hear";
The latest version (SB24_VTDRV_LB_1_04_0077.exe) no longer has the option for "What U Hear" recording with Sound Blaster Audigy SE/LS/Live!24bit.
Both drivers are currently available for download. The only way to get the "What U Hear" back is to reinstall the previous drivers, or roll back drivers.”
After the driver rollback, here's also a video on how to enable it.

I would have tested before, but the crashes aren't so often/consistent that I was able.

Thanks for the effort. It's pretty weird that it's just not working now :/.

Why tell us this and throw in info on random BSOD's, when you also know that it doesn't affect/relate to the problem, and then laugh at us for mentioning it would be a good idea to check? Edit: Actually, nevermind - let's move on.

You also don't have the open mind to try out suggestions that actually make sense. You were given the recipe to get stereo mix and try it out. We were not asking you to install Vista, just pick up the tricks that work with that OS and apply them in WinXP. Sometimes unfortunately the solution that work takes some work

Can you please elaborate on this? Per default your sounds from Windows (and therefore all sources like FF and SC2, noted A+B on your excellent drawing) comes out of your SBLive sound card. In a sense Windows is a sound node in itself. I simply don't see any reason to switch nodes so to speak, as you only move it one step forward, but don't change any routing/functionality.

My sound card has never had "stereo mix", and like I said, I am not aware of any way to get it. If you're going to be a douche bag (by implying that I don't have an "open mind" and am not willing to put in work / effort to make things work (I've spent dozens of hours getting my audio to work already)), just don't post. It doesn't help.
Edit: And if you don't realize this: Stereo mix is not "What u hear", and my "what u hear" works, so the link was completely irrelevant.

I can not redirect audio from SB Live to virtual cable 1 with audio repeater (as I explained in the OP).
Sorry if you're just trying to help, but it seems like you're thinly veiling insults which I don't deserve.

I realized, since SC2 is the only thing not working with virtual audio cable, perhaps I should reinstall SC2. After all, virtual audio cable has its own driver, and perhaps SC2 isn't recognizing it properly.
Will update.
Edit1: Interestingly, I have no uninstall.exe, and SC2 doesn't appear in my Add/Remove programs list, rofl. Guess I need to re-download SC2 and just delete the old folders.

I think the rules of the forums would make my life pretty hard. Please calm down, and read my posts again. I'm even complimenting you on your drawing, but that doesn't mean your OP is perfect. I'm not perfect either btw.
According to my knowledge and I did some research to freshen it up, "What U hear" is the Creative Labs' equivalent to "Stereo Mix" commonly referred to as "what you hear". Sources: http://www.abyssmedia.com/mp3recorder/stereo-mix.shtml http://forums.pcpitstop.com/index.php?/topic/171534-record-from-what-u-hearstereo-mix/
As to your problem: Could the reason for your VAC not showing up in SC2 be related to the timing of the VAC and SC2 launch? In my experience SC2 will list any sound device that is available at the start of SC2, so I guess I'm asking if you are running the VAC software before launching SC2? Maybe use the dxdiag.exe utility to diagnose that your sound device is registered under DirectSound devices.
|
Well considering you gave a link to a video where a guy literally just went into playback control and hit a check box to turn on stereomix, I think I was pretty justified in thinking you were trolling. Nvm about that then.

Maybe use the dxdiag.exe utility to diagnose that your sound device is registered under DirectSound devices. VAC is showing up in SC2. I can set SC2 to "virtual cable 2". The problem is that after I do that, and set an audio repeater to send sound from "virtual cable 2" to "SB live" and "virtual cable 1", it doesn't work. I can not hear the audio, and neither can the stream (which is using virtual cable 1).
Basically, SC2 refuses to send sound into the virtual cable, as I said in the OP.

Ah, yeah, if I set the system default to virtual cable 2, then I only have the option "Default" in SC2. I don't even have "SB Live! 24 bit" in SC2. Only "Default".
If I set my system default to "SB Live! 24 bit", then I can choose "Virtual cable 2" in SC2.
Either way, I get the same result.
Re-installing did not help, just got done doing it.

Sorry to be off topic, and doubly sorry if what I'm about to ask is against the rules of this sub-forum... However, I was just curious, did you purchase for your copy of VAC or did you obtain it through other means? Is there a trial version of it that doesn't have an audio-watermark?

googling a full version of vac will give full version, I'm sure not everyone pays $30-40 or however much VAC is ;P

Alright, I found a version(4.06) between the one I originally had(4.01), and the newest one(4.10), and it works perfectly from what I can tell. The newest version works perfectly for my brother, but he has vista, and it also worked perfectly for everything EXCEPT SC2 for me, so I wasn't sure.
Thanks for the effort guys, guess it's just xp+vac4.10+sc2 being a poor combination?
