Q: You finally played against a Korean player in the Finals, how do you feel about the skill gap between you and tip top Koreans here? A: It was fine actually, not that big, I made too many mistakes there.
Q: What are the mistakes? A: I made a big slump in Set 1, didn't scout his 2nd rax, took quite a long time, thus I had no reaction time against his Bunker rush. I did think a lot on the 2nd map, but his 3 tank timing push messed up my plans there. I originally took a lot of attention on his drop plays, like a lot of Mutas. But I expect his tech would be slow after that Tank push, so I decided to tech myself and stopped muta production for a while, so when he actually started to drop, I don't have enough mutas to deal with that. And then he had a Planetary in the middle of the map, this makes me harder and harder to turn the tables.
Q: Will the gap between Chinese and Koreans become larger next year? A: This all the way goes up to the Chinese tournament hosts. The biggest problem between us and foreign pros are the maps, most Chinese tournaments use either old or non-standard maps, they are quite different from the map pool of major foreign events like GSL and MLG, thus make us difficult to play in those events.
I hope the tournaments can catch a bit up on this, it would help us in the foreign tournaments a lot.
Q: Any plans to stay in Korea next year? And opinions on HotS? A: The team already has plans on playing in Korea. And HotS won't help a lot, because HotS in fact stands for "Heart of the Swarm Breaks".
Q: Any other people want to thank besides your fans? A: The whole iG team behind me, this could not become true without them.
EDIT: Clean up the first question to avoid further misunderstanding.

This statement alone is going to cause a lot of discussion, I'm betting.
Edit: + Show Spoiler +More like shitstorm. I honestly don't think he's that close to MVP's level.

thanks for the translation!
i do think there was quite an apparent gulf in skill. though it might just be big game nerves on xigua's part
|
The Chinese always have great potential, too bad it wasn't a bo5 or 7 to fully showcase his talent.
|
Lol, not so big between him and MVP eh? More deluded than I expected.
|
Thank you for giving us this translation. I am surprised that the Chinese tournament scene is so far behind map-wise. Also, I think that if iG trained in Korea they could become an elite team.

he said he made a lot of mistakes that's he shoulldn't have, therefore he meant that if there were no mistakes, it would have been a lot closer. Well, pretty much anyone can say this :/

Lol exactly, that's the biggest difference between players like this and the MVP's, Nestea's.
They don't make those mistakes, that's why they are better.
|
Yeah the finals were pretty one-sided and then saying that there's not a big skill difference is just BS...
|
My first thought when reading the gap comment was that how do you know if even if you played your own game flawless that you'd still come close to MVP's own limit? If you don't force MVP to go past second or third gear, how do you know what 4th or 5th looks like?
But i like his optimism, so good luck to him!
Real shame about the maps. That's just... that's really unfortunate. Maps are a really big deal

What i found interesting is his reaction to the bunker rush. Most Diamond level zergs on EU immediatly throw up 2 more spince crawlers behind the expo instead of throwing away all their units.
That defintily showed a skill gap, meaning i don't think he has practiced against that specific rush a lot, even if it is one of the most common ones.
On Metal tbh he made one big mistake in the midgame (not doing anything with his mutas) which snowballed into an impossible situation. Even if he had stopped all nukes the Terran position was simply too strong.
|
Yeah guys, it's easy to bash him from TL behind a computer screen.
What do you want to him say, "Yeah the skill gap is massive, I'm absolutely awful compared to him?"
Come on... he's boosting his own self esteem and admitting he made a ton of mistakes. That's why MVP is the best player in the world, sometimes he can wow you with genius micro, or he can just outplay you in macro, but most of the time the reason he wins is he simply doesn't make mistakes. Or he makes drastically less than you, and at the pro level that's what it comes down to. They can all macro well, some more than others, and they all have good micro, some more than others. What separates MVP, Nestea (not much as of late, but still) and such from the rest is that lack of mistakes.

No credit to MVP? MVP absolutely slammed him
|
Well played by Xigua. Im happy for him he finaly posted some good result after the IEM china disaster.
Gonna pay abit more attention to him in the future
|
skill level is not very close. im not even going to comment on the 2nd game because everyone knows he made so many bad mistakes. but the first game, why would u not block bunker placement with drones......,.

edit: nvm -_-

Hoping XiGua can prove himself more in the future. It's almost trash talk to say the skill gap is not that big at this point :x
Also, I don't understand the HotS comment. Is he basically saying the expansion is going to break the game? I admit I am not thrilled with some of the units either... we'll see I guess.

He is saying that it will break the heart of the SWARM. As in Zergs and Zerg fans.
edit: People thinking that the skill gap argument (edit: doesn't) makes sense forget that there is an equally large skillgap between MVP and everyone else in the world, korean, chinese, dutch, whatever. MVP made Nestea look bad, and there is a huge skillgap between Nestea and everyone else in the world not named MVP.

Does anybody know which maps are used there? "Old maps" = blizzard ladder maps I presume, but do they use community made as well?
