Hello team-Liquid!

A fellow map maker/SC2Armory member (Timmay) and I have been talking aboot custom maps, popularity and consistency with them as well as their recognition. I've realized that many new map makers either don't post or get scared away from map making because of various reasons, including me in some aspects.

Here's where Timmay and I would like to help.

Introducing:

MAP MAKING DAY 2!
Presentation!

The Idea:

To create a fun activity session for all forms of map designers -New and seasoned- following through for a week until the next Map Making Day.

Map Making Day itself will consist of a full day where players brainstorm an idea and put it to life in the galaxy editor.

The very next day, a chat channel will be opened and for all who choose to come. This channel will be for presentation of your map and is intended for you to join with other map designers/play-testers to flesh out your map and; eventually, finalize it.
The second day marks the beginning of the play-test week.

NOTE: Your maps do NOT have to be in any means finished for the next day, the first day is just for brainstorming a concept and having it in the editor.

The Structure:

Day 1: Brainstorm your idea and input it using the map editor.

Day 2: Upload your map, sign into SC2 and meet others in the channel. use this channel to gather testers for criticism and suggestions ascertaining to your design.

Example of structure:

Saturday: Map Making Day! Brainstorm your idea and vitalize it through the galaxy editor.

Sunday through Thursday: Join the channel, test with other designers and help them test!

Friday: Present your finished work on this thread (using the supplied presentation template) to be entered in a community poll for best map based on certain elements.

Saturday: Map Making Day 2!

Guidelines/Restrictions:

Must be a melee design, with space for 2-4 players.
3 pos. maps are welcome!

Be Friendly!

Anything else should naturally be fixed through the week long playtest/troubleshoot

I've made a forum template for anyone who wishes to use it, you can just copy and paste from this text file. It's pretty easy to understand and it keeps things organized.

If you use this template your maps will be featured on the main page in the OP!

Im Happy to announce that the first community map tournament featuring user maps from this thread was an absolute success!

We've had great success in previously testing our maps and great response from the players of todays tournament on these user created maps. In the future we hope to continue to provide the community with more maps to play and more exciting live games to cast.

So look forward to the next Tournament, Hopefully we can get some more great map designers to contribute to the entire process that is slowly turning out to be a great accomplishment..

I encourage all designers to participate, as this will most likely lead to fun, creative and well designed melee maps. Don't feel like you cant submit if you've missed Saturday either, still submit a map on Friday if you want

Remember this is for everyone so feel free to participate and invite friends to help play-test maps from the community!

I simply wanted to try a template that I havent tried before as I have only recently done natural designs. I thought a space platform would be the way to go for my next map. I also wanted openness with a hint of sneakiness, that's where the center comes into play!

Seeing Crossfire SE so much in the Gsl inspired me to design this map, It's tight like Crossfire but opens up mid-late game. The fog here adds an extra oomph to the setting

When I started this map I had only a bit of practice on making 4 player maps, often they were wayyyyy over-sized but I think I captured the actual size that I wanted for a 4 player map. The Center Xel Naga was my way of giving the map a little dangerous signature

This is an excellent way to get some of the beautiful maps shown here played and exposed to the community. I'm really looking forward to this and will be participating and helping out however I can ^^.

Yes it's gonna be for melee maps only, custom maps (like counter-strikeish maps lol auir chef etc) take longer than a week to make lol

but still I invite anyone to come participate just for fun to pump out some new melee maps ^.^

What!? Only 4 replies, this needs some more attention. Guys show up Saturday this will be a great opportunity to test out your maps, and have fun with other map makers!!!

Do you have to make a new map, or could you use this opportunity to get players to test your existing maps?

You don't have to make a new map on Saturday, I just wanted a set day for everyone to start a new map if they felt like it. feel free to submit a map here that you've been working on for a while and test it out in the channels.

Basically submit anything you want to next Friday and use that Saturday as your marker for a new project!

Ill also be submitting after I start a new map on Saturday, although I have like ten maps in beta already, I'm going to use this to pump out a new one.

please stop by anyways!

Just be carefull it doenst get rushed. The best maps have alot of time put in, not just on making but most of them just as much on testing it.

But sounds like a fun idea, tho my mapmakingskills are too slow im afraid ^^

i'm not sure if we need a special "map making day", i can make maps anytime i want. but i really would love to have some fixed times every week where map makers gather and just play&obs each others maps and do some testing and chatting and fun things. i always hate asking around in irc for people to test a map.
