They're so lucky that the fundamental base of SC's gameplay was already so good, otherwise I would have stopped playing (because of all the problems named in the OP) long ago...

Wow, it's been 2 whole years...? Man, it just makes me feel sick inside that these things aren't a part of the game already. I have a small feeling that Blizzard may be holding out on us, so that it looks like they actually did something for the expansion. What's worse is that we are losing players, and we are losing them fast. Nobody is going to buy both WOL and HOTs if they didnt already own WOL, so the best that Blizzard can settle for is trying to win back the people who have already purchased WOL but have stopped playing.

WoW brings them in subscription cash every month while new expansions bring in SC-esque levels of income whenever Blizz becomes afraid that people are bored. Do any of you honestly think Blizz really cares about interface in a game they can sell to you only 3 times, at most? WoW team will get the resources, SC gets whatever is left. We are all lucky they made the effort to actually code this thing in the first place instead of just releasing World of SC.

Actually, even if Blizzard themselves cared the fact is they are owned by Activision. So even if Blizzard wanted to throw more bodies into coding a better battlenet they wouldnt be allowed by people who are focused on making the next Call of Duty.

Bundling. They will make some money bundling the first two expos and then all three expos in one thing for 70-80 bucks about a year after the first thing came out.

You know what's funny? Blizzard made a big deal out of Battle.net 2.0 before the release. This just goes to say how Blizzard lost touch with their own community. I blame them growing too quickly. WoW made them so big so fast, they went out and hired EVERYONE. One of them must have said, "Let's revamp Bnet into what looks like console online matchmaking system." It's hilarious to think that they spent a lot of time and resources making Bnet 2.0, cuz it's garbage

I stopped playing for several months simply due to the lack of chat. It just felt like it was something I had to do. If blizzard didn't care enough to implement a basic form of communication, I couldn't justify continuing to play the game.

Blizzard already mentioned in interviews (search browder interviews) most of this will be considered in HOTS. Maybe do some research before posting next time.

I started playing LOL, and to me, the UI is about the same with the EXCEPTION of the friends portion, the friends list for LOL is much much better than the same thing in Bnet 2.0

Well, we know things aren't really going to change since Blizzard's entered this 'work as little as you can get away with' phase in recent years. They'll continue to do nothing, and when the community finally manages to catch their attention about something once in a while (like the name change issue), they'll blame us for not wanting it enough. If they think releasing an expansion every 2~3 years is going to keep SC2 alive, they're sorely mistaken.

Well, this seems to be a gigantic flaw with gamedesigners all over the world in the later years. There are so many games which are focused on being fancy and "new-age" (in lack of a better way of putting it) instead of functional. And yes, Blizzard failed massively with SC2 and it is a shame, and the fact they haven't done anything about it yet pretty much proves they don't give a shit about their customers. And tbh, I'm a casual player and will not be buying HOTS unless there are some drastic changes coming, which I doubt there is.

It makes me wonder where they keep finding the people they hire and why they don't listen to people with good ideas within their own company, because surely at one point, someone must've raised their hand and said "you know what, the current system we've designed is utter crap from a user-perspective, let me show you why and how it could be better".

And if no one did that it goes to show the level of incompetence that currently is blizzard.

Battle.net 2.0 is the biggest travesty to have ever befallen any Blizzard franchise.

Let's not forget how bad design choices Blizzard have made with the game have been, such as removing any player's ability to view their total losses UNLESS they are in Master League or above.

If I had any say at Blizzard's HQ, I would have the following happen with HotS:
  • Clan support, plus clan tags and a separate clan chat room.
  • Moderators for custom chat channels.
  • Free name changes, with a 3 week cooldown per name change, so that professional gamers no longer have to purchase a new account.
  • Removal of Real ID once BattleTag comes in.
  • Revised TOS rules that would make actions like stream cheating or continual stream sniping (i.e. to a RatZDeezer degree) violate the TOS.
  • LAN support. I would instead sell the game based on how good it is rather than how much butt-fucking DRM it is. At the same time I'd do what's in my power to prevent organisations like iCCup hosting third party servers.
  • Full, 100% cross region support (along the same lines as games like Super MNC and Dota2). No need to buy a new game licence just to play in a different region.
  • Removal of the current league system, instead adding levels up to 50.
  • Revised Custom Game UI, adding far more exposure to new games rather than the same old crap like MineralZ, Special Forces 1338 etc, having a dedicated section for ladder/melee maps and hosting custom map contests.

LoL is alright, but navigating Player records other than your own is done better in SC2 then LoL. Also, compared to the LoL's ranking system and ELO Hell, SC2 has a much more efficient and accurate representation of current ability, whatever it is. I would also prefer more content to be accessible in the UI instead of forcing a browser open. There are good and bad aspects to it.

As for Custom games, perhaps a Valve like system where it is subdivided into community admined "servers" that can host series of maps or game types. With Blizzard overseeing each "servers" activity for ToS violations. I think we all can agree that the BW UMS set-up was very abused and needed some work.

I have a feeling they are saving a lot of UI changes you talked about in the OP for HotS. It would be a bad move by Blizzard to give us everything up front. They are spacing everything between the three expansions so they can have stuff to add in each one.

I agree with everything in this post.

The fact that the guy who helped design b.net 2.0 was a developer for the Xbox Live dashboard is painfully obvious the two operate and feel exactly the same. Both look pretty and have cool sounds and transitions, but they really suck at doing what they are suppose to do...

I just hope that HotS is going to be similar to SC -> BW but we can only hope that is going to be the case.
