UI still sub-par 2 years later. Why don't we care? - Page 11

It's Blizzard that doesn't care about their game's UI, because it's still bad and it never had to be. For me bnet 2.0 after being online for a while I start to feel tired like "Ugh, I've been sitting in this small space forever..." and then I need to log off and take a break to play something more social like BW or chess. I do not feel compelled to "chill" on bnet 2.0.

Chat channels could be better organized but at least they're there, and you've got Steam to handle your friends list and PMs. It's pretty remarkable how much better spectating is in DotA. You can jump in any game (except private games when DotATV is disabled) and watch the game with other viewers. There's a built in 3 minute delay which works with the auto-director camera setting, so that the game automatically highlights the action for you. If you'd rather control it yourself, you can either have a free camera, hero chase or player perspective, which includes the cursor and everything so that it's essentially the same as watching their stream, besides the mic/camera. Ever want to see HuK play without his music? ![]() From the profile, you have the stats of the heroes you've played and a complete match history where you can check the scoreboard and download/watch any of your replays. For replays, along with the auto-director, there's also an auto-speed which speeds up the game and slows it down for combat. Oh and of course when you disconnect from a game, you can always reconnect.. It's really quite sad how poor Bnet 0.2 is compared to what newer competitive games are using. Of course they have to accommodate custom games as well, but the custom game system is quite poor as well, and you will never see a healthy SC2 MOBA scene without a better matchmaking system. Everyone hail to the HLTV ![]()

I mean, imagine that at some point in its implementation the guys testing it actually agreed "yes, this seems okay." Holy shit i can search for MLG daybreak and i get ESV Cloud Kingdom higher on my search list. What the actual fuck. I might even have to scroll to find the map i searched for. I can't even begin to wrap my head around how that search works.

I love UMS. I loved Brood War UMS, I loved being able to make a Kyprion Pact RPG, or Elements RPG game and see it fill up with random curious players and we could get a game going anytime, any map. I'm bored of the first two pages of SC2's UMS list so I guess I'm just shit out of luck, huh? The map editor was probably the thing I looked forward to the most in SC2, and look what they've done to support it. Nothing. Worse, they actively work against it. For those of you saying "Just wait, it'll be fixed in HotS": don't fall for it. If you really want these features implemented, then DO NOT BUY Heart of the Swarm unless the features are THERE in the beta, and not just empty promises on the 'coming soon' (coming never) list. I don't think many people are buying HotS for the single-player campaign and its terrible, terrible writing. Make them fix what's already broken first.

The interesting question is - what can we do about it? Boycotting HotS won't work, as none of us would really do that for obvious reasons. And even if it happened, the numbers would be too small to make any impact at all. But the HotS beta awaits. And with it the beta forums and the beta feedback. This is the best shot we'll have at actually communicating these things. Keeps threads like these active in the beta forums, or post your own ones. Include interface feedback in your beta reports. None of these issues are, by themselves, complete dealbreakers. That's why they're getting so little attention. But as a whole they totally kill what Battle.Net could be. Don't just limit your beta feedback to balance or design. Mention these things as well. Often. And all of them. Just because we've been promised improvements doesn't mean it'll actually happen; we have to get this through to Blizz.
