UI still sub-par 2 years later. Why don't we care? - Page 12

But as I said I can't see Blizzard fixing anything for WOL, I'm still amazed that they actually implemented chat channels (though they are trash). Hell they even had people bag them to allow them to pay them even more money just to change their names and they still didn't do it. I think hots might address like half these issues, if we are lucky, the other half will probably come with the void.

Concerning the custom map system, I really think that it hurts the game a LOT to have a system that is that bad. In broodwar and wc3 casuals would mostly play custom games (that's how dota was born) and some of them would eventually switch to "real" competitive play after. Even Idra started playing money maps on broodwar :p. The only thing that they did well was the ladder system, it's not perfect but it's easy to use and the matchmaking is good.

- There is no social aspect on bnet at all, everything feels dark and lonely. It needs to feel vibrant, like when you logon it feels like a massive community is active. - It needs to be a place where you can hang and have fun, even if you have no friends online. - Some suggestions to make it more social are: make chat channels a main part of the UI, clan support, online replays with friends, embeded tournament stream with chat, automated tournaments, join and view live games, unranked automatchmaking, upload replays to your profile and allow people to comment on them etc... - Arguably the biggest fail is the custom game interface. Huge expectations that the editor will take the scene to the next level but it has taken 10 steps back. Two years in and its still the same games on the top 2 pages says it all..... At the end of the day, why the fuck did a console guy develop the interface for a high profile PC game.

Battle.net 0.2 is a massive reason why the SC2 population has died, and there is hardly any body playing anymore. I'm not quite sure where you've gotten this information but it's absolutely ridiculous. How could you state that nobody plays SC2 anymore when the scene at the end of 2011 was through the roof and the tournament season is just starting up again with likely an even bigger success?

I totally agree with OP, bnet 2 is far from being good and every part of it could be improved. How this could have happen and why blizzard didnt react is a total mystery to me. One thing I disagree on is this part : And why all this? Well, of course because it works for Blizzard. Enough people were happy with what they got, not enough people cared. The folks who just bought the game for the campaign obviously didn't bother with the menu much, and the competetive 1vs1 crowd basically just needs a working matchmaking system (which is great, btw, and the only redeeming feature). But there's a huge number of players interested in socializing, custom maps and analyzing their play. Those that haven't left have grown complacent or jaded with Blizzard's ignorance. I'm part of the 1vs1 crowd, or I should say I was (got to low master 1v1). Sure the matchmaking system is great but I'm slowly but surely stopping playing the game. For many reasons, mainly cause I'm giving up on the game either cause it has flaws in the design or to not start a war on this subject more simply cause I find the game not so enjoyable, personal tast, but also cause I feel lonely on bnet right know. And may be if it was simpler to find and play with people, share replays, interact, in a word if it was fun to be on bnet I would still hang around and play more often. And I'm quit sure its the same for a lot of players. Hell, I just can't understand how blizzard made such an awfull bnet 2, this is beyond comprehension :/.

Matching AT versus RT works because of MMR. Yes, the AT could have an advantage due to voice chat and team cooperation, still their MMR matches roughly the random team. So it is not unfair. The WC3 custom maps was not very good in my opinion. And when you finally found a custom game you would like to play, you often got kicked because you needed to load that map from the host.

Still SC2 UI has some better stuff in it like the ladder system is a ton better than WC3 had and the custom games are much much better since you can actually see a lot more different games in it unlike in WC3 which was pretty much full of dota and footman frenzy.

In WC3 it's too hard to contact a player one just played unless one memorized his name, which was quite hard for some names. 1) Sorry, but I could instantly message anyone in WC3, be it a buddy, a stranger, my whole clan or even my whole friends list. And unless someone had a name filled with ridiculous special characters, it was never a problem. How is SC2 an improvement in any way? 2) It is unfair, because the system is completely open to any form of abuse. You've already mentioned chat and voice tools; then there's the issue of people signing up for 3vs3 RT with an 2vs2 AT team (or 3vs3 for 4vs4) which completely bypasses the matchmaking. And then there's the dubious methods of the matchmaking itself, which will often "balance" games by pairing a good player with an awful one to create an "even" team. Just take a look at the win percentages of "top" master league teams. It's completely broken. 3) Please elaborate why you think it wasn't good. The game lobby, host options, customization, naming games and of course no ridiculous popularity system were all reasons why WC3's system worked well and SC2's version is failing, hard. The custom scene kept WC3 alive for a very long time, it's equivalent in SC2 is pretty much dead. And kicking usually happened when you were downloading maps which were several MB large, which is perfectly fine. At the end it was generally accepted that large maps had to be dl'ed beforehand; people usually tolerated the DL of small maps or even set up "empty" games just for the sake of downloading.
