Match Day #5 was a tough day. Too many draws and rulings for my comfort, some drama that I'd have rather avoided, and frankly a bunch of stuff that is just getting on my nerves in general. Yes, I'm going to be naming names and calling people out. I'm the type of person who says what's on my mind, no bullshit. This isn't exactly a professional approach but it's one that I live by. Situation #1 - Brownjesus vs Tuln, a mid-game disconnect. It's turn 11, Brownjesus is up 1-0 after he received first half. He disconnects, thanks to Cyanide's inability to create a stable game. At this point, nobody was really in a scoring position. This was [eventually] resolved when both players agreed to re-game, with Brownjesus scoring once in the first half for free and skipping turns until the second half. This should have been the obvious answer, but some issues arose. a) Tuln sustained a casualty, and Brownjesus wanted him to sit a player in the corner to mimic the 10v11 atmosphere. For starters, Tuln had 12 players and it should have been 11v11 anyway. Second, really? I mean.. really? We want to put players in our endzone to mimic casualties? b) Things got tense between the two players, and some harsh words were said. My goal in creating this league was to create a fun environment for everyone to play in. If people are going to act like children, I'm not going to run a second league. Mid-game disconnects will be treated on a case-by-case basis. If both players agree to mimic the results somehow, then more power to them. Otherwise, if you want just a straight-out re-game, that's fine too, so long as you're not pulling the plug to do so. Situation #2 - Kanil drops from the league, WannaB gets a WO? Kanil has respectfully resigned from the league, citing that scheduling has been too difficult and stressful. This is regretful, as Kanil has been nothing but active and supportive and has simply got the shit end of the stick in regards to scheduling. Game 1, he misjudged the time zones and forfeited, an unfortunate but understandable mistake which I hold no ill will towards. Game 2, he faced Delki, our first drop-out who was completely inactive and impossible to get a hold of. Game 3 was apparently a scheduling nightmare (for his timezone or whatever, I do not know.) Game 4 was another scheduling nightmare- not once, but twice, because a disconnect forced a regame on a desperate day. Day 5, he scheduled with InToTheWannaB, who no-showed. This essentially pulled the trigger and made him resign. Why, then, did I award InToTheWannaB with a WO? Because Kanil, in his infinite modesty, didn't even mention that WannaB failed to no-show. All he told me was that he respectfully resigned. Later, when I became privy to more details, it was too late. I had already given WannaB the victory and validated it, an action which is irreversible thanks to Cyanide's inability to design a logical interface. Even with Kanil dropping out, I would have given him the win had I known. You do not deserve x2 winnings and x2 MVP for no-showing. WannaB, I request that you buy new players with whatever winnings you earned and promptly fire them, to at least perform a LITTLE damage control. I don't know how much money you made, but I hope you will be fair. I cannot force this, but I hope you listen. Situation #3 - Forced draw between Papagenu and Skirn Ya'll just didn't try hard enough. I know that the IRC community is thriving, and many games can and have been played with little to no scheduling attempts. Many games are played via "Are you there? Yes? OK, lets roll." You cannot rely on that, and you need to discuss more than availability. Games need to be scheduled. If a game is not scheduled, and if both players have shared PMs and not devised a schedule, then I have no basis in which to award wins- not that I want to award wins, I'd rather both players be proactive and actually play the game. Oh well I guess. Situation #4 - Forced draw between Cloudica and kingjames I heard nothing from either of you until it was too late. Period. The only thing I did see was Cloudica asking "has anyone seen kingjames" in IRC a few times, which is not enough basis to judge any games. Cloudica PM'd me 5 hours before the deadline (a period in which I was sleeping) to simply say that he couldn't get a hold of his opponent. If you are not able to contact your opponent, you need to contact me at least 24 hours before the deadline, so as to give ME time to try to contact your opponent for you. Also, you need to copy/paste any private messages you've sent to and received from your opponent so that I have something physical to go off of. I'm not going to punish someone off someone else's word- I need evidence. I've said this time and time again. For all intents and purposes, Cloudica may have been eligible for a WO. Unfortunately, the deadline hit and I didn't have any physical evidence, and was not made sufficient aware of the situation. Cloudica, I apologize that you received a draw when you may have deserved a WO, but it's too late now. Again, Cyanide's shitty interface makes this ruling irreversible. Situation #5 - Forced draw between Jaycee and Mexicanhat Jaycee and Mexicanhat want to play Saturday, but you can't play MD5 games before MD4 ends. Jaycee asks Mexicanhat if he can play Sunday. Mexicanhat says Sunday is a bad day for him, but he will try to be on at night. Mexicanhat doesn't show up, Jaycee spends all night waiting. Jaycee PMs Mexicanhat asking for his availability. Mexicanhat remains unclear. Jaycee PMs him again. No response until Tuesday. Tuesday, 30 hours before the deadline, Mexicanhat says a bunch of stuff that essentially equates to "I'm at work when you're sleeping and you're sleeping when I'm at work on the weekdays" Jaycee is unhappy because Mexicanhat waited so long to tell him that, and despite his extended efforts to schedule a game, its basically impossible to schedule. He feels that Mexicanhat didn't try hard enough to warrant a draw. He feels that if Mexicanhat had ruled out weekdays sooner, they could have looked harder at trying to schedule something on Sunday (perhaps earlier in the day if that would have made it easier on Mexicanhat, which is unknown.) For all intents and purposes, Jaycee tried a lot harder to schedule this game than Mexicanhat. He was extremely proactive and not at fault in any way for the lack of ability to schedule a game. Why, then, did I rule it a draw? While I very very very very much wish Mexicanhat had been more proactive and clearer in scheduling, the bottom line is that their schedules and timezones couldn't agree. Whether they communicated or not, Jaycee was sleeping while Mexicanhat was working, and Jaycee was working while Mexicanhat was sleeping. Even if Mexicanhat was god's gift to scheduling and communication, their timezones would not agree. The only difference between them talking to each other and them not talking to each other would have been a few wasted keystrokes- the game would not have been played under either circumstance. Jaycee is understandably upset at Mexicanhat's reluctance to communicate, but even if he did, there'd have been no difference. It's shitty but that's that. Sorry. All "schedules wont agree" draws will be treated this way, so long as both people have attempted some form of communication and that there are no obvious signs of abuse (AKA: Telling someone "I'm unavailable all week" is not grounds for a draw.) In conclusion... Shape up, guys. I'm a mentally depressed person currently in psychotherapy and on 2 antidepressants, of which are not working and I'm likely to endure another month of torture weening off of them so that I can try a new one. I have spent the better part of these last few years trying to avoid every ounce of drama, and it's not easy to be relied upon to find solutions to these issues wherein my goal is to "piss off as few people as possible." This league is supposed to be fun. If issues arise, sometimes you will have to make concessions in order to ensure that the league remains fun as a whole. The more players there are, the more liabilities there are and the more problems we will inevitably have to deal with. All I ask is that people remain patient. I will make rulings in your favor if I have reason to, beyond a shadow of a doubt. However, the mere existence of doubt in a ruling makes any judgment arguable- and if something is arguable, punishing somebody without evidence is impossible.

There was some illness involved which confined me to bedrest for a while but that cannot be used as an excuse because I was online during that time. I also denied the charge in a PM exchange with Nokarot but I was confused with a previous opponent. For that I apologize. This past week in bed has just blurred together. I realize that there is nothing that Nokarot can do to remedy this situation in particular. Perhaps in the future we can have in the OP a list of players who miss games. If they continually miss games, then WOs will be awarded against them due to their history. Also, Nokarot, your dedication to the smooth operation of this league is greatly appreciated and should be highly commended by all. =) Keep up the great work! Hope to play you soon!

Does Xbox360 partake in the same online environment as PC? would've thought that netcode aside, that would be possible with a game like this... Also if anyone's planning to play at the very end of MD 6 / start of MD 7, please let me know, as I'm playing a double header, and would like to know if anyone is actively waiting on the match day changeover...

I'm not going to name names this time around, except in the case of Alak who was ill and let me know ahead of time, and thus receives no grudges from me. Otherwise, people are just MIA, no-showing matches, not answering PMs or this or that or the other thing. We're still finishing the majority of our matches but I fear what will happen if it declines. Being as that this thread isn't garnering any new interest (unless there's some lurkers out there) I fear that if this inactivity continues to spiral down, we won't have enough players left for a second season- or, at least, not run by me. We'll see what happens. All I can say is that it's not fun to run a league where you're giving 5 WO's per week and many games are being played at the last minute. Still no replacement for Division 2. Guess that's another WO for MD7, this time in favor of Mexicanhat. Half-way through the league, I'd be surprised if anyone would even bother wanting to join, so at least I'll get 1 win with my ogres this season- although I'd rather lose than get a WO. ----------------------------------------------------------------- LIVE NOW TargetPractice vs InToTheWannaB http://www.livestream.com/targetpractice Edit: game over, a long time ago actually.
