Bio and I have been setting up and organizing a weekly showmatch series for the communities enjoyment, and I'm here to announce the first event! Each week, Bio will be joined by a community guest caster to cast a best of 7 series between two members of the community! Games are going to be each Sunday.
The Guest Caster for Week 5: Whitewing
Fifth series: Date: March 25th, 2012 Time: 2:00 pm EDT Place: Battle.net (And #tlponies of course) Stream: www.twitch.tv/bio_hon
The Players: Homm(P) vs. Yip(Z)!
Special Rules: Each game will have special restrictions placed upon each player for funsies, along the lines of funday monday games. All other rules will be the same. Expect lots of fun and sillyness!
If you wish to participate in future Bronycraft Showmatches as a player or as a guest caster, please contact me via PM here on TL.net or get a hold of me some other way. If you want to be streamed or have a go at casting, this event is your chance :D. If you're at all interested, PM me, I'll do my best to get you in if you merely show interest. You do require a NA account, or access to one (perhaps someone will be nice and lend you one if you need it).
Also: does anyone have access to a guest pass they could lend Homm for the event (or mind lending him their account for it?)

You're seeing things. Nothing suggests it to be a reference to the S1 joke, and even it it was intended as such, it was them that made the joke in the first place.
Also they made a nod towards the popularity of Wet Mane Rarity when when RD doused Fluttershy with the bucket of water...
Yeeeah, no. No, they didn't. If you asked them they'd say "What the heck is 'Wet Mane Rarity'?"
Regardless, "fan service" is an intrinsically neutral element. Its sometimes-feared "influence" is actually caused by the absence of a real joke when a reference is used in place of one as the joke. Those feel empty not because the reference ruined the joke, but because there never was a joke to begin with.
Things that happen in an episode are spoilers, I see no one else having a problem with adding a few extra letters to their post or people having a problem with having to click one more time to see a post. I'm not gonna waste more of my time beyond saying this, its just a nice thing to do.

Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence. Neither do I see anyone else having a problem with unspoilered inconsequentialities, for that matter.

That's coming across awfully hypocritical given the context, don't you think?
Well, i'd not be too amused if i hadn't seen the episode already and read that...
Also i think that they certainly are monitoring poluar MLP Sites and check around in the fandom, why else would have Derpy gotten the scene that she did... ?

That's the only "fan-service" moment from this episode. There was nothing wrong with the other examples he mentioned, they fit into the episode just fine. The whole derpy thing was pretty awkward though.

The writer didn't even know who Derpy was. Rest easy. Long-dead one-scene local memes aren't out to get the show.
As always I'll be slower than everypony else to comment on the new episode. Work work, didn't have opportunity to watch it before. (Shipping inside!): + Show Spoiler +
I'd just like to say that I think it was a great episode - fun parts, sad parts, d'aw parts. Yay! And perhaps most importantly it was an episode full of shipping. I thought Appledash was canon, but apparently Flutterdash is. I don't mind either way :D
Flutterdash canon. Bottom left is a very springy wing reaction to Fluttershy speeding by:
TwiDash (poor Twi doesn't approve of this episode's particular brand of ship):
SpitfireDash (no, I promise this is an unedited screenshot. Can you spell CANON? This is a sudden reaction with jerky wing extension and associated pupillary dilation, to the appearance of Spitfire.)

For the second draft, I was asked to change Ditzy's name to Derpy as a "tip of the hat" to the fans. So, not knowing that Derpy meant anything beyond klutzy and clumsy, I did as requested And then I was finished with this episode.
While I would agree that the writers are not necessarily aware of fandom favorites (and are probably discouraged from knowing them to an extent), some of the people working on the show pay a lot of attention to us.

I'm not out of the loop. The topic regarded references influencing writing, and Derpy was just a free name change.
