Funny, i remember a quote from Mr Chae in regards to all the foreigners outside declining their invites to the Super tournament in which he mentioned that he was sure if the Koreans were given the opportunity to participate in a foreign league they would, no matter the monetary sacrifice required, because it is what needs to be done to become the best, clearly not entirely true.

Anyhow, this is pretty bad for the NASL and I feel for them. Although i can understand where the Koreans are coming from, it is quite unprofessional to go about it in this manner, especially after they've participated in the qualifiers, signed contracts and season 2 production had already begun. Really harsh.

WTF come on... damn koreans -.- I feel bad for NASL as many people just lost all incentive to watch. I can already see Puma winning season 2 as well. NASL really tried hard to accommodate but i guess it is what it is =[

NASL should reduce it's prize pot to MLG levels and use that to invest in production value and travel expenses.

GSL maypays for travel and a practice house. NASL should learn from MLG, a tournament everyone respects.

Does this mean MC and Nada will still participate? they are signed to SK for foreign tournaments

I have contacted SK and inquired about their ability to play. I am waiting for a response.

MC was the main reason I went to the live event last season. Hopefully he and Nada can still participate.

There's no black and white; not even shades of grey; all there is are men wandering through life rather aimlessly, without directions, making snap judgement without particularly goals or guidelines to abide by.

The situation is fairly simple when you look at it from a business angle:
There's no room in korean team's budget

and that's it. They can't afford writing checks out for anything, so they resort to this. Something have to be fixed.
Thank God and gunrun.

I'm actually cool with this. Don't get me wrong, i love to watch koreans but i most of the time root for foreigners. And tbh im tired of getting my heart broken It would be cool if koreans were in NASL, but i think it will be just as cool without them.

Well, now we will have that league that western purists want so bad. Let's see how the viewership goes.

they already get basically free money in torunaments because foreigners don't like to play the game much apparently
bitching on top of that for travel expenses paid (only if they're already in the playoffs for 3 days and a ton of prizemoney) ...
compared to foreigners having to pay to go to korea and dying horribly in code a qualifiers , to get a chance for code a where they will probably lose , to get a chance to go to code s where they will probably lose...

yeah sry but ...
fuck koreans

they already have the way better deal

Hm, this sucks.

All of the koreans knew what they were getting into to be honest, and declining this late is just wrong. I mean, if 2k a person doesn't cover the expenses, I can understand that, but that's something they should have considered beforehand.

The other issue is that NASL s2 was shaping up to be a lot more interesting then s1, mainly due to the influx of korean players. Now that they're all out, we're going to end up with night upon night of irrelevant low-level matchups. I want to support (and pay for) NASL, but if it's at 'foreigner' (IPL) level, there's no way in hell I'll pay for it.

(It does explain why Hero switched to TL tho ;p)

The Koreans just don't want to come, they don't have to if they don't like the tournament. They should have decided sooner though.

Korea did it for the West

In the world tournament gsl paid for all travel expenses(including to Korea and within Korea) as well as computers for them to play on (not sure on the food).

Let's be realistic here
2000 would barely pay for travel and hotel
so if you lose in the first round you are spending money to participate in a tournament in the other side of the world

You guys need to remember that GSL has a house for gamers and provides all accommodations
they are simply asking for the same treatment.

100% of the travel costs and the entrance tournament fee as well as no deposit.

Those demands are not really unrealistic from Koreans, they just might not be in the current budget for NASL.

All world tournament players were invites, thus could decline and many probably would if they had to pay their way. The Koreans had already accepted the rules/got in the tournament, then got everything paid for at a 1/16 chance to win $50K.

It would be like world tournament player accepting the inviting, then the day before his flight saying he wants more money.

tbh good for the Koreans for sticking to their guns.

Has anyone here auctally tried to caculate the cost of a 1 week trip to cali from seoul and back. its damn expensive. Being almost 3k with hotel and airfare and such. For the chance at $500, which would still lose them $500 if NASL paid 2k.

I can understand why the teams would do this tbh. They are not in a healthy state in Korea and of course they would want people to pay, since they can't temselves.

I can answer this question. We paid for Korean players to come to NASL Season 1. We bought tickets for MC, PuMa, Zenio, and Squirtle. We paid $1,192 for each ticket. The hotel cost was $353 for the entire event. Travel cost was about $80 per person (shuttle service to and from). This averages out about $1650, factoring in meals ($50 per day even) ... giving each player $2,000 should cover that.

Then why not just say to them "we're covering your entire costs," instead of putting a limit on it. Thats rather dumb.

you tell the Koreans that you'll cover 2k. they say to you they want you to cover it all. Well if 2k will cover it then tell them that you'll cover it all.

seems like really poor thinking on NASL's part.

if you cant afford it then dont let your players qualify for the tournament in the first place.

2000 dollars isnt that big of a travel stipend when u consider that a return ticket can potentially cost twice that as well as accomadaction and the movement of gear for training and so forth, the fact of the mater is that the prize pool isnt large enough for them to come to the tournament if the minium prizing winnings was more like $5000 then u would see more koreans as if they got knocked out early on then there is still a positive economic outcome for them.

What are you talking about? I'm managing Team Liquid and I can tell you that the planetickets cost around 1200 $ for a return ticket. Hotel during the event wouldn't be more than 400$ and then you can eat and drink for less than 50$ a day. What's the problem here? 2000 $ is more than sufficient to cover all costs.

I have a question about this though:

Can the roster from FXO Korea still take part in NASL Season 2?
