This thread is for discussing recent bans. Don't discuss other topics here. Take it to website feedback if you disagree with a ban or want to raise an issue. Keep it civil.NOTE: For those of you who want to find the actual ABL thread where the bans are posted. Please look in here: https://tl.net/forum/closed-threads/ |

Naw, I'm totally okay with mods channeling justified anger into their bans. They get to say what some of us wish we could say to those assholes without getting banned ourselves.

Have you read what those people wrote? Of course he is angry, any normal person would be... it disgusts me that you think KwarK is in the wrong with being mad at those pests called "humans". "Every human is human and I think you should be ban for thinking some are less human than others." Would that sentence work as your ban reason ? Because that's what you said, and I fervent paragon of egality cannot accept that. See how I mixed my feelings into decision ?
When someone is expressing a disgust towards someone else, I have trouble imagining him having a clear head and being able to go pass these feelings and act justly. So yes I am questioning myself about the reason why KwarK keeps moderating threads were his feelings are getting the best of him because this isn't the first time (last time I noticed was a debate about gender which he moderated quite harshly).

First, we have a feedback thread if you want to discuss whether those posts ought to have been banned.
Second, remember the first commandment. There is no "egality" on this site. People can, and will, be banned for being douchebags.

I am probably more interested and more informed regarding rape culture etc than any other moderator. It's not a topic that most of our demographic have much awareness of. I moderate those topics for the same reason that the guys who play SC on a high level moderate the strategy forums, because I know my shit. In this case, knowing my shit means knowing the outcomes of the mentality perpetuated by the people I moderated today, it means understanding just how many rapists there are out there, how many women they rape, how few every get prosecuted or even reported. With that in mind my approach to these topics is entirely rational.

Damn I'm so happy Kwark is so involved in that thread. Not just because of all the bans we get to feast on, but because without a reasonable mod banning idiots I can't believe that thread would go anywhere good.
|
Kwark isn't the only moderator/banling who's been criticized in the past for controversial bans that seem to reflect conflicts with personal viewpoints, rather than objectivity. We're all humans after all and some have to give a little in order to restore peace.
That being said, I think the bans from the rape thread were "well served". Shame on those that can't take the topic/discussion seriously.

I'm really happy that you're there to moderate that thread. I have very low tolerance for the sort of responses that usually exist on those types of threads. I don't like to think that people like that are actually capable of that line of thought. It's just ridiculous. So I'll just stay away from that thread for my mental health and be happy that you're there to clean it up.

It would be neat to choose one lucky mod-wannabe from this thread per week to write a clever ban-reason.

Happy birthday kwark, I'm not always a fan of mods getting emotionally involved in bans, but in this case i think you might have been too kind, some of the stuff posted in there that wasn't permed deserved it, i think you showed much more restraint than was needed.

That banpage.. rampage banpage.. That banssacre.. no I'll get it. That .. no I lost it again.
Good work KwarK damn.

That article is a bad way to put it. Sounds more like institutions looking to protect their own reputations rather than institutions who embrace or tacitly condone rape. By the article's logic, then couldn't the Catholic Church or Pennsylvania State University or Hollywood be part of a "pedophilia culture" just because of a few bad incidents and the attempted cover-ups afterwards?

The problem is that there are a lot of people who, very seriously, think they have the right to have sex with whomever they please irregardless of consent to do so.
I feel bad for Kwark having to wade through that shit on his birthday of all days. I hope the rest of your day is less filled with assholes.

I'm articulate on a lot of things, but on issues of feminism I am decidedly inarticulate. This is in part because I'm not as informed as I'd like to be, and in part because as a man, I have a certain privilege in society that means I fundamentally don't see or don't have to deal with a lot of the stuff that informs feminism.
That being said, I can talk a bit about rape culture, what it is, and what it means with you if you'd like. It's a relatively simple concept. We can open a blog post thread or do this via PMs if you'd prefer, but this isn't the right thread for it.

Sorry for shitting up this thread with the discussion on it. I actually thought I was in the What is Rape thread rather than the ABL thread.
