Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.
For regular posters, don't quote the trolls. |

As in how do you deal with people that can't understand that your gay but won't just leave you alone about it.
I got two different impressions of the question you were trying to ask, so i'll answer them both:
paraphrased How do you deal with people who aren't tolerant of homosexuals that are really open about their sexuality and/or are flamboyant
When I was younger I was fairly concerned with making the world a better place -- something I thought was synonymous with setting heterosexuals right about their ignorant opinions. While I had some degree of success (and I didn't go about such an endeavor with righteousness) I find that the older I get, the less time I have for such people (this thread being the exception).
I surround myself with people that make my life better than it would be without them. These people vary in opinion, lifestyle, and upbringings. While I would say that none of them are homophobic, I've stopped trying to 'broaden' their perspectives to the flamboyant faggot, as I find such attempts not relevant to my friendship with them (the exception being that they are interested in hearing such an opinion).
So I don't have much by way of advice. I do not deal with people that leave me wanting to 'fix' their stances on homosexuality or flamboyancy.
Sorry
paraphrased How do you deal with people who are cool with you being gay, but just won't let the subject drop?
This never happens to me, so again i might not be that helpful. If i came across someone of this nature, I'd probably be pretty straight forward about it: "Hey bud, I'm gay and it's cool, but talking about it is getting a little old, can we switch topics for a bit?" which would be followed up with a deliberate light-hearted topic switch (as to avoid people feeling awkward about your straight forwardness).

Absolutely! This is definitely one of the major things that attracted me to TL initally and has kept me around - how sober and rational and reasonable the moderation is and the atmosphere it (attempts to) foster(s). Not just queerwise either, racist and sexist stuff gets dealt with as well, and there's not any dithering about it, it's just black-and-white "that sort of talk is not welcome here".
I really respect the whole approach TL has re these issues and I definitely think we wouldn't be able to have a thread as oarsome as this one in it's absence.

despite my quote, i am not gay its an obscure greg giraldo reference)

I have two questions:
First of all, when and HOW did you find out that you were gay?
secondly, do most gays have an accurate gaydar? If so, what aspects do you look at when determining if somebody is gay or not.

How frustrating does it get sometimes when a vast amount of anti-gay people get their belief from a book written 2000 years ago? And how do you deal with the frustration? Thanks a lot mora!

ok, I looked over the first 10 pages. Almost everything was answered except for what aspects do they look for when determining if somebody is gay.

In reality though I'm certainly a starcraft player that is gay, not a gay starcraft player, since while having such a gimmick would be brilliant marketing material if I ever turned pro, but being categorised as "the gay one" gets a little tiring after a while. I suspect there are a lot more than five gays on tl, given it has hundreds of thousands of accounts. It's just unlike girls on the internet gays can just get on with it without feeling the need to post "hey guys, I'm a girl!!!". That's because a thread called 'Female Starcraft Players' where the OP confesses to be a female is probably going to get locked rather than go for 52 pages. You can't really lock this thread because then you're being discriminatory, right? Ironically I doubt you can even start a thread called 'Bisexual Starcraft Players', or if it didn't get locked it would just fizzle.

It's not so much frustrating as it is ridiculous. Being French, sometimes, I kinda look at those American christians as weird zoo animals. No offense intended, but seriously... When I read some of the comments before, I felt like I was reading something written by a 5 years old.
Hopefully, mankind will sooner rather than later evolve past religion. France did, for the most part. Come on, America, you can do this!

I'm not gay, but *hugs* to you man. No doubt you've been through alot of shit, coming from someone who has also been through alot but related to something else. How did you stay strong? Friends, family? What keeps/kept you going?

MORA!
I find that all the gay men I have encountered thus far are some of the kindest, nicest, most awesome people I have ever had the fortune to meet. Why is this?

Apparently Mora is the official representative of gay starcraft players. I dont know anything about him but he seems loved by the community so I will give this my stamp of approval. Keep on keepin on.

i am christian. while i think homosexuality is wrong, i wouldn't consider myself anti-gay. it's just another sin to me, like telling a lie or getting angry. i think some gay haters take their beliefs a step too far.
i'm fascinated to see this thread. where i come from, there aren't too many open gays.

Great to see some GLBT community within the SC community. Keep it up Mora, thanks for creating space

i understand this thread is not the palce for a gay/anti-gay flamewar, which is definitly not what i want, but i'm just really curious what you as a christian think is so bad about being gay.
and what do you think about bi's (i'm bi ;p)

the bible classifies homosexuality as unnatural. in contemporary times it has been interpreted to mean immoral. but i believe there's logic behind it. homosexuality (1) is non-reproductive and (2) is more unhygienic, the rear passage being, well, generally not so clean.
and before anyone starts classifying christians as bigots, and the bible as discriminatory, i would add that the bible tells me to love my neighbour too. that includes gays and bis
bis, well, insofar as you are attracted to the same sex, my views on homosexuality apply.
