Thankfully the 2nd case is no longer socially acceptable to say on a public forum, and hopefully the same will happen to the first case in time.
And it *was* used to justify segregation and slavery in the past.
The story of Ham and Canaan, for example, was used like the one random passage in leviticus today. Canaan was "blackened by sin". He and all his descendants who settled "in the south and west" were to be slaves to other men. Bam, enslavement of Africans justified by god. And plenty of passages were similarly twisted to justify denying woman's rights, segregation, etc etc.
Hopefully one day we'll move past this and be able to accept each other. Because let's be frank, there's a *lot* of other "abominations" in the bible that no one seems to care about.

I am so disappointed. Numerous requests have been made throughout this thread to keep it away from religion and other similar off-topics. The blatant disrespect of these new posters is frustrating.

An odd question on how to handle a situation. A girl friend (a girl who is just a friend not gf) has a new gay friend and brings him out to meet myself and other friends at the bar. The two of them arrive she introduces him and mentions hes gay. The 1st thing out of his mouth is "yup i love the dick" its down hill from there. Hes loud, irritating and it gets worse as he starts drinking. 45s mins later i tell my friends im out and my female friend asks me why. So i tell her i cant stand tht guy you brought. She goes straight to i dont like him cuz hes gay and im a bigot. I try to tell her thts not the case i just dont like people who are loud d-bags. Shes not having it and its hurting our relationship. now as i will try to explain here I have no problem with gay ppl. I was in the navy for 4 years and the army for 3 i worked around gay people all the time ( oddly the army has MUCH more of a gay community than the navy who woulda thought right?) I never had an isssue. We all got along fine. I honestly dont care at all. But look if she had brought a friend who came in and said "hey im tom and i love eating the pussy!" and proceeded to get drunk and loud i would have left just the same. Im 26 I no longer go to the bar to get smashed and loud. I go to tht bar cuz beers are a dollar and pool only cost 75 cents as apposed to 1.25 down the street. I know for a fact this isnt how "gays" act, its how assholes act regardless of your sexual preference. How does one handle a situation like this without damaging the friendship and being labeled a gay hater? Or do i just have to give this guy a pass to be a tool because he is gay to save face?
ps: im something of a blunt person. and have little ability to handle thing delicately ( I blame being in the military since i was 17! =P) and am hoping with all the xp on this thread someone would know how to handle this tyvm for helping!

It was a legitimate question regarding how frustrating it sometimes gets when you're rights are forbidden not because of some scientific or logical reasoning but due to something else..

Bottom line: any "views" you hold in a "good discussion" don't really have evidence or logical backup at all; when you get to the very foundation of WHY you believe that something is good/bad/neutral/etc., you will find that it IS just a "core belief" (i.e. a "gut feeling" or notion that you have inside you).
