Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.
For regular posters, don't quote the trolls. |

I always feel like a dick when I think about this, because I do tend to say things like "that was pretty gay" as kind of a default phrase for something annoying/dumb/style-of-play-i-think-takes-no-skill(but I do it too because I play to win D: ) For some obscure reason "fag" is still kind of on my no say list- maybe it's kind of like the n-word; so used to hearing it that it doesn't bother me, but would never say it myself.
It's always strange for me whenever I run into people that are *actually* homophobic and like "I would totally disown my children if they were gay", but unfortunately they still exist. I will admit that if my kids turned out gay I would be disappointed... is that just hypocritical then?

This is what this thread was created for. What is all this hate? I cant believe how much of an ass teacherWISH is. Posting hate in this thread is obviously a quite route to being banned. Well, first of all, I think as long as you would love them, that's what matters. I don't think it's that unusual for parents to feel *some* disappointment, because it probably goes against the expectations that you have for your children when they grow up.
I would first ask if you have kids now, because your feelings might be completely different once you actually have them.
If you do have kids, I would ask why would you feel disappointment? An LGBT child can still be successful in any career, they can still have kids (although they might be adopted or with either the egg or sperm donated), and hopefully they can get married someday. It's a better time to be gay than at any time in history, which would be good for your kids.

Why would you be disappointed? That's probably the best place to start.

So Mora, DOES gaydar exist? And how do you decide who is pitcher and who is catcher?

Would them being gay mean they would be less of a person? I mean, the only difference that makes is their partners would be of a different gender and honestly, that matters incredibly little.
The only reasons I can see being disappointed in my child would revolve around how they treat other people and how they decide to utilize their potential. I wouldn't want my child to be a criminal or jackass.

Yes, that's about true, but western first world countries are also the countries with the highest social mobility, least racism, and least sexism as a general rule. Societies' ability to be tolerant seems to partially be a product of wealth which is why it's somewhat saddening to see wealthier Asian countries remaining homophobic.

Massively flawed and juvenille concept, people are completely free to criticise things if they have a logical rational problem with something and that something can be changed, obviously homesexuality cant because its how your born, but sayings like that annoy me so much as they are spawned from medieval thinking and go against freedoms, one of which is freedom of sexual preference!

Good points, I would still love them, although I don't have any kids now.

You're right, it is hypocritical. I guess I'd be disappointed since my view of a "normal" family is still skewed to the conservative end. Knowing myself I would pretty much get over it immediately, but now that I think about it I'm upset to know that it would initially be disappointing.

Hehe don't be too hard on yourself there. Even parents 100% cool with queerosity still go through a process of incorporating the notion that they won't have grandchildren (in the heteronormal way anyway), and the other sorts of emotions (fear for their child's safety, future potential for happiness etc etc). Just because the realization/revelation is/would be arresting, doesn't mean you are "really" homophobic "deep down".
Being honest with yourself about your feelings is a big part of being awesome. : )

I have a question for the gay people out there. I watch Modern Family a lot, I think it is one of the funniest shows on right now, and there is a gay couple on there. I do not know if any of you are married but would you say they depict the normal for gay's when dealing with a marriage, or like the stereotypical exception?
