How are we going to do this? I don't know if lab computers can play SC2, and I definitely don't plan on getting a gaming laptop (getting a gaming PC this summer because it's much cheaper, I don't like carrying big computers around, and I already have a netbook and a slate tabletPC so really don't need another portable. xD)
Depending on how many people I /might/ be able to host SC2 at my house? I have roommates, so no guarantees, (can't ask them yet since they haven't moved in).

For our first meeting, I say we keep it simple with a little Williams meet and greet or something lol.
Then we can figure out from there a solid gaming session schedule.
Like someone mentioned we can only play online over bnet and some of us play on PCs. So I suggest the gaming logistics be planned later on.

We could probably get a sc2 lan going if we have enough beta keys. I don't know if multiple people can connect & play through the waterloo wireless network. Location will have to be a cafeteria in all likeliness.

Depends on how many people want to come out!
If we have enough undergraduate members, we can form a club. This will allow us to book space in the SLC. We could always nag the school administration to see if they'd let us install and play SC in one of the computer labs at specific times. If there are any alumnus members with a larger house, maybe they'd be willing to host the meetings.

i'm in math just finished 3A
having my coop-term in Waterloo for the summer and will be studying in the fall too. Hopefully by the time we have an event most of us will have a key and we can have some sort of free testing or tournament or something.

If we can get some room booked on campus then I suggest just hosting one at a regular time that everyone doesn't have issues with. (As in, not during work hours, not during a specific night if someone has a night class, etc.)
Or just host them at different hours every week or something. If you try to find a time /everyone/ is okay with you're bound to still miss out on a couple people and you'll probably end up wasting a couple weeks because one or two people can't make it.
But yeah, poll for what's a bad time rather than a good time (time of week)?

What are the requirements for a room to play in?
Depending on the time I could get everyone in to the KW Badminton club. I have a key, the place is decently sized and completely deserted at times. We wouldn't be "allowed" to be there though.
I could actually maybe just pitch the idea to the board.. I know one guy plays sc and works @ rim. They also let some spanish group use the room for language classes during the week.

1(+1) key from my Best Buy preorder (likely getting another one as I bought 2 copies of SCII)
2 keys from Blizzard's "thx for having so many real life friends who play SC2 here's another 2 keys to make u feel special and not antisocial for being holed up in your room for hours a day playing our game"
So, I've already given one key to a friend, and will likely be giving another key, and may be using a key for Europe... that leaves at least 1 key left.
So, to everyone **from CANADA** who wants a key, I will have a contest...

There are some amazing people in Mathematical physics. A guy on my floor in REV had around a 99% average in the first year of that program AND was basically drinking/partying constantly.

I have a B.Math (CS).
I saw many people in my program drop like flies. For every 90%+ genius student who never studies, hundreds more fail. In contract, everyone I know who put the work into studying got through.

It's on the other end of campus, but MKV's multipurpose room is big enough to fit a sizeable LAN and has wireless internet running through it.

The best bet is a lecture hall on the weekends. There's a few nice big ones in RCH that fit the bill.

yu ru liu is probably the most caring/responsible prof i've ever had.
one day i was sitting in class, and when class was over, she pointed at me and told me to stay and talk to her. i thought i got busted cheating with assignments or something. turns out she said i was wasting my time learning nothing in the basic classes and should take advanced classes.
i've never talked to her before that so i guess she looks through the grades of her students and gives advice out. well i tried enrolling into advanced classes next term, but quest, what a piece of shit web app, wouldn't enroll me into any of them.
oh well, take yu ru liu if you can! her english is not so great, but she's really willing to help you if you need it

Yeah, both organizations aren't affiliated with each other in any capacity, mainly because of laziness from both parties.
I/We can do that, but it also depends on your definition of "meeting". If you just want a meet n greet, we don't really need a room booking as spaces for that are everywhere. If you're talking about lan party, that's a whole different thing that requires a bit more organization.

the official is mostly the last season team + everyone in the brackets on the try out date (not the group try out but bracket).... which mean combat-ex and oracle are not... yet... on the team.

32 players, 19 Diamond, 8 Platinum, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze, and 1 guy who hasn't completed placements (what)
9 players with close to 1000 Diamond points or over
I wasn't paying full attention, but I'm fairly certain that most of the field is Protoss. I only remember seeing like 3-4 Zergs, and one of them was the Bronze guy.
Bracket should be up as soon as we get Bnet information from the last guy (which is why the league count only adds up to 31).

Part of having it in the SLC is, I believe, visibility. ASUS is sponsering this tournament after all, we need to make it worth their while.

Some Information on the tryouts:
It's going to be MSL qualifier format: 4 to a pod, top 2 advance. Or play against the senior players and have them evaluate your skill lvl
The senior members of the team will be obbing at least one of your games.
Once the groups are finished, it's a single elim tournament till winner.
All matches are bo1. Finals are bo3.
There is also a showmatch between UW vs York just before the csl season starts. More info coming up for that.

Drop is too strong in that map, as well as reapers.
what you do is that you make MM and 5 late reapers or so... wait for P to move out and fly those 5 into main, snipe probe or cybercore... the best would be cybercore since it will delay stalkers and stim MM will rape zealots sentries but probes are also good.
for drop, there are cliff at the edge of your base that can COMPLETELY hide air unit from ground units vision. this means that if you have a wrap prism, you can infinitely wrap in stuff in his base safely as soon as he doesnt has air units....

I'm on the team due to thanksgiving however I am without a capable sc2 machine this weekend so was just curious how the match went. As for strategy you don't think there is a place for sniping?

It seems to have been resolved back during preseason though whenever I tried to load any page it would take forever to load (just a white screen or prev scrn). I haven't noticed anything since if it happens again I'll let you know though. btw you used to be around mG right?

it was right before u guys announced the sever moving thing so its obviously slow ... its normal now so dont worry about it.
It seems like people are making a big deal out of our 1-3 lost last SAT. I would like to blame most of the mistakes on me since i played without seriously practicing in the last couple weeks. Homework's driving me nut and i keep telling myself that as soon as i keep the mechanics(macro-micro) smooth by practicing with AI (yes, i played vs normal AI a lot) + theory-craft is good enough. I feel like i did not do my best i my game and if i won, we could have made a come back using ACE. Again, i will pay more attention in sc2 from this weekend and I promise that i will do my best next time ...

I know a fraction of the parkour club don't even attend the school so I'm hoping if I just live in the area it's still ok to drop by and say hi.

Ok, the meet up will happen at 12AM Friday night SAT (NOV 12-13) morning at RCH 302 (it said 3 but its ground floor)
The main event which is GSL fina will happen at 5AM so you could show up when ever in between. I understand people love clubing fri night.
I recommend you to bring your laptop/mice/keyboards to hold up a little LAN party early on.
The games will/could be board cast using the projector, to secure the game, 2 players could set up their laptops at room 301 nearby (so they wont see the projector).

RCH is near the engineering buildings, and the phys building. Its right beside those large stairs.
For parking im not really sure, you could try parking at the plaza nearby. They have people patrolling the campus parking lots so unless u have a parking pass they'll probably give you a ticket.

Just getting my name out there. I live in the Cambridge area, but did not attend Waterloo in the past. Decker#544. Currently Platinum (17-14), but I figure my skill level would be around a 1200-1800 Diamond player. I just haven't played too many ladder matches. I do fairly well vs. my 2200+ Diamond Toss friend however :D.

We are currently power rank #1 (may be 2 but mostly 1) among all the universities and colleges in North America about starcraft2/
Our main line up consist of ~20 master rank player which has around 6~7 in top 200 North America.
We do accept and encourage people with all skill level to register on the website (UW students only since you need the email @uwaterloo.ca) and chill with us at "UWaterloo" chat channel in North American sever.

UWaterloo Team League Season 2 will start in about a week. This league has players from all sort of skill level and the format is:

Meet up normally happen in RCH 301 302 with 301 is the "gaming room" and 302 is the room with the giant projector for the crowd to watch the games.
The next meet up COULD be THIS FRIDAY night at 11pm to 5AM SATURDAY morning due to GSL final season 4. If you are interested please leave a message below. Noticed i wont host if there is less than 10 people coming T__T... We usually end up with more than 20 people + a drunk guy who dont even know what starcraft is all about so please let me know!!!!
Bring you laptops and gaming gears if you wana play in a little showmatch b4 the event start, we provide you wireless (of school), power bars, and an empty lecture room to make sure you wont be able to map hack using the projector of our commentator ....

@dark.pyro: if you bring both monitor and tower, we provide powerbar. Else bring your tower and we shall used it with the projector (which also mean u cant play =__=).
kkk, no comfirmation on chromate on the Toronto final theater thingy so we should be able to make it all this time. final update for those of you who have no clue where to go: we are having dinner at mongolian at 7:30 PM TODAY. Expecting most of team A are coming and we gona head to RCH 302 afterwards. If the old key still work we gona stay there, else we gona move to a room inside the Engineering buildings that we used for the old meet up (will update on that).

I am thinking about running a Toronto based tournament for Charity with the proceeds going to the Victims of Japan. I know Waterloo has a HUGE sc2 scene and was hoping that I might be able to gauge some interest. Right now I'm getting some advice from some of the bigger named casters on format/prize pool/map pool/etc, but was wondering if anyone would actually be interested.
I am also trying to get a couple of pro players out, but we'll see what happens. If you have any suggestions or advice, let me know either PM me or reply to the thread (i'll try to keep myself active).

CSL Fall Season Tryouts:
Time: September 22nd, 1pm EST for
Format: seeded group play based on ladder points, then single elim top 8
There will be A team and B team. At least the top 10 will be Team A. THIS ROSTER IS LOCKED UNTIL END OF SEASON(csl rules). B team is still a serious, competitive team. Picture it as a proving ground for season 7.
Everyone has to tryout(even previous members), players will be observed by other high level players
