The problem with "I'm behind and want to catch up" vanguards is that VG is best when you are ahead, as a cheap item that lets you fully abuse the lead that you have. If you are behind on a farming carry, buying VG and trying to teamfight your way out of it seems... well somewhat counter-productive. Basically, if the other team has no offensive items to speak of, then the damage block on VG is good and the item is actually cost-efficient. So if you can get it really fast and are ahead then it is somewhat justifiable I guess. But if the other team has even a cheap offensive item or two, then the damage block becomes vastly less useful and VG becomes a glorified Vit Booster. AKA if you are behind, it doesn't really catch you up that well (IMO). But it is a cheap item that does something, and sometimes you just have to buy it and try to make stuff happen. Pubs throw 24/7, it is true. | ||

Vanguard is not by any means a cheap item though, it costs 2150 gold or so. | ||

That is comparable to Vlads (2050), Blink (2150), Force Staff (2350), Mekansm (~2300), Midas (1900), etc. All of these are "cheap" items. Expensive items are over 4K, really over 5K. SnY/Bfury are not truly expensive IMO. Obviously a lot depends on the farm position, etc, but many of these are affordable, core items. | ||

I'm having difficulty understanding your post. Are you advocating vanguard as an item because it is cheap and easy to get? If so, are you aware that a tranquil boots + vitality booster + PMS gives you more regen, just as much HP and almost as much block, for cheaper? You can later convert the vitality booster into a heart, or disassemble the tranquil boots into vlads or force staff as well. | ||
