In fairness that doesn't always work. The number of times I've asked people to stop autoattacking and last hit only; only for them to totally ignore me and just keep autoattacking is insane. Oh, more QQ: Last night end up in a game: Void, Juggernaut, Spirit Breaker, Chen, Lina vs OD, NS, SK, Mirana, Tide. I'd picked Lina and was planning on support but had to solo mid instead. Did quite well against OD actually, couple of kills, etc. Worked with Spirit Breaker to pick a few off. Everyone else pretty bad. Didn't see Void do anything, I saw him managing a good chrono at one point and he didn't attack anyone in it. Decent farm, but didn't do anything with it really. Their NS got massively fed finishing 15 for 3. Chen admitted right at the end it was his first time playing, and he got no creeps to work with all game. But the worst was Juggernaut. He managed to go 1 for 12. -_- Why oh why do I get matched with these people?

Then even if I do end up with a hero that I know how to play I don't perform well enough to make good plays for the team. Usually I just focus on not feeding via over extending etc... My strategy to improve at Dota at my shitty mmr was to just pick whatever my team needed and play that role the best I can, and if I see my teammates performing poorly I try to cover their roles... Randoming and picking heroes for the team doesn't seem to be working out doesn't seem like it's going to get me anywhere close to where my friends are anytime soon... I feel like I need carve out a more rigorous practice regiment like I had to in order to get into Masters in SC2 (single player, practicing BO's, watching all my losses, etc.). Maybe sitting down and playing every single hero I haven't played against bots should have been something I should have done from the get go. It's so goddamn depressing to be a newb at Dota 2 everyone beats down you and rarely gives any constructive criticism when you actually enough of a brain and motivation to improve. In SC2 you tend to feel heated during an intense game, but in DotA 2 you just get sad when you actually care about improving (esp with IRL friends). Maybe after 1000+ games I'll be somewhat acceptable to lane with. My lane buddy literally told me to go to another lane after a few failed gank attempts last night...

Team is bad 1 decides he wants to play alch then complains I shouldn't be jungling..... ok w/e he bad doing anyway. I push top lane with help from DP little later and get both raxes then bot tower Cool we are so fucking far ahead. Then comes the feeding..... Veno ends the game 1-12 and sandking ends 1-13. I am like 6-6 atm Tons of farm and ganking like crazy when then feeding kicks in their TA and NS get so huge we just can't fight them. I try to backdoor with no success. They proceed to all blame me for 10 min.....wtf....

I could have wrote this post <3 This is 100% me, except perhaps the laning phase which is the only thing I think I do correctly. And I'm so focused to improving my play that I still have zero understanding of the strategy, so I just try to do well but I'm never sure I'm where I need to be or what I need to do (besides the obvious things of my role)

This, pretty much. I'd even go as far as to say that if you don't go quelling blade on AM, you're doing something seriously fucking wrong. You literally speed up your farming rate by 32% once you get a bfury, for 225g. Why would anyone ever not get quelling blade on AM?

All just utterly stupidly bad. Entire team goes something like 2-15 in less than 10 minutes. Its been like this all day. Now this game Im in right now. I random SB, im like "yes, a fun hero". Boom, someone afks right off the bat, and trilanes bot with me. WTF? I chill out and hit the jungle, farm up treads and MoM, I get a kill. I send my MoM recipe to me via cour, some dude drops off my recipe then attacks it. OK, WTF? That shit pisses me off. Idc if ur bad, but if ur gonna intentionally be a dick, then ur just not even worth my time.

In the mean time we are 4 v 5 ing, with AM actively ignoring every fight, no matter how close it is. At 40 minutes, he is 0-0-0. Ok so far. We say enough farming, AM is out leveling everyone else on the map by 5-6 levels. Am ignores the, takes another 20 minutes to farm a Divine, which he then solo pushes into their base with loses, and they death push and win the game. SOOOOOOOOO frustrating. AM does not say a word whole game, and literally ran from every fight near him, then one big throw by him and gg. An hour of my life wasted.
