I never thought I’d be compelled to post in this thread, but yesterday had a little something that pushed me over.
I’ll start with saying this for NA players: matchmaking on US West? Just say no.
Unless you have a 5 stack party or something. Otherwise you’re running the risk of being paired with players from across the Pacific. You might believe The Philippines to be the main offender, but worse problems come from China of all places, as was last night’s case. Now I hear stories that Chinese servers the most competitive in the world which leads me to believe they que in NA in the illusion of easier mmr (or whatever the equivalent is now). Well they do that and then proceed to play poorly.
My friend and I were playing mid lane Shadow Fiend and position 4 Enchantress respectively. The Chinese were a three stack that ran Juggernaut, Bane, and offlane Elder Titan. The other team had plenty of Juggernaut answers: Axe, Bloodseeker, and Spirit Breaker. So he continued getting picked off and proceeded to start spewing flames in text and voice... in Chinese. Meanwhile Elder Titan was a non factor as expected and Bane bought no wards until he had Arcane Boots; for me the latter part is one of the most triggering things I see position 5 players do (your Enchantress cannot buy all our wards! We’re up against a Spirit Breaker!). We could not push out, Shadow Fiend and I were the only ones to even touch enemy towers. Game was miserable.
I can’t imagine they do well on their own servers, but the arrogance that they think they play overseas thinking they’ll get easier games despite the communication barrier makes them worse. Please stay and rot in your own Hell and I’ll stay and rot in mine. For now on, I’m US East only.

Went on a big winstreak and got a bunch of promotions on my new symbol... but doesnt seem to show. Got a notification that says congratulations you have reached start 2, 3 ,4 etc. But my icon still shows 1 star.

What MMR is Legend, or is it too early to say? I swear, 5 games in a row these "Legend" players are like 2-3k or worse. How the fuck am I supposed to win games with players calling mid and feeding 10 kills in 5 minutes?

Legend is around 3.4 ~ 3.5k.
Also yeah, some people still are not trying very hard, despite the calibration. Best thing to do is to ignore them and try anyway (if you manage...).

I really don't think mmr has translated well to this new system, I'm not liking it at all.
Is there anyway to decrease in rank? Do you just keep playing and gaining stars until every game is a loss? Is progression just not really shown? What the hell did the calibration do anyway?
Also everyone seems to have filled their asshole meters to max.

First game after calibration, account buyer, dude has 242 games on South east Asian servers, 4 games US East, all losses US East and guess where I am...

mmr still exists, and you can still track ur own mmr. the rank depends on your mmr, but it can only increase. so for example if you reach 4340mmr, that is ancient 1. if you then proceed to lose 4 games, you will drop to 4240mmr but you will remain at ancient 1. however, you still need to reach 4480mmr if you want to advance to ancient 2.

People are obsessed with their MMR, like my sweet lord I had no idea until this new system
AM + CK could both use a rework, AM for being the most unfun hero regardless if he is on your or the enemy team and CK for the ability to one shot anyone with only some relatively cheap items.

I have ground out a 600 mmr gain since placement last month. Its been a battle, Im so tired of playing safelane core. lol. But my cores always let me down when i support ><
Just had a 3 core lineup that built 0 bkbs against Invoker, Silencer, and aghs mirana.

Team suggested I pick AM because it counters the enemy cores. I agreed, but asked for two supports because I can't lane solo vs an offlane SK. My supports said "sure we'll support you don't worry". They then proceeded to not show up to my lane once until about 2:30, and only one support came. Then they question my farm at 15 minutes...
They could have zoned him completely because we had Rubick + Lion. Zoned or killed. Instead one support comes and SK was already lvl 3 so we can't do a single thing.

My last few games have had mid players that haven't played dota in a long time. Needless to say, games are very hard/impossible to win. Can't they just warm up with some unranked games or something. Just feels frustrating to play when your mid will only be a liability for the whole game.

My last two games I dont think I could have done anything to win. The first I played offlane timber and wrecked their lane going 5-0 to start, but we had an 0-17 safelane drow and a mid pudge who didnt gank and went 0-7 to their shadowfiend.
The next game I played safelane, and had a solo lane again viper and orge (basically nothing i can do) and another Mid pudge who didnt gank, with an offlane techies and Luna, and jungle leshrac. We got demolished. So frustrating to have games you literally cant win no matter what you do.

Just lost a game where the only stun on the enemy team was Pudge's ult. We had Weaver + Storm as our mid and carry. I'm in awe at how bad these guys were. I watched Storm ball lightning right on top of Pudge then get ulted at least 3 times. He got his Bloodstone around 24 minutes after Treads + Kaya despite our supports winning him mid (24 minutes Treads Kaya BS is incredibly slow btw). I don't even know what to say about the Weaver. The Storm was Divine 5 so I expected more. The Weaver was Ancient 5 so I wasn't surprised to see him underperform since the avg of the game was somewhere around Divine 3, although he did have a completely free lane so idk where his farm was lol. The enemy team had a Prophet that didn't even bother going to the offlane and he just fed all game. SOMEHOW we still lost
edit: watching the replay. The Weaver had 50 cs at 10 minutes, then 70 cs at 15 minutes, then 98 at 20 minutes while only being involved in 4 kills. HOW does that even happen. This idea that hitting neutrals is good is such a bad mindset. This guy was never shoving lanes or anything. Just farming neutrals with a hero that doesn't farm neutrals well unless you have items that make you farm neutrals well (he didn't have those items). Storm was farming equally slow but I guess he was at least trying to be active.

I just lost 7 games in a row today. everyone one of them was a result of stupid drafts with no synergy or just really bad lanes being drafted. every single one. Nobody even played all that bad beyond one viper who wouldn't teamfight.
How do people not no how to draft lanes yet. Its like they want to lose.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother with Dota. It's not that I had a game just now with bad teammates. They were no worse than me. It was a boring, 50 minute game where we didn't push and I watched our advantage slowly bleed away while I bought tons of wards. But then it lasted ANOTHER FIFTY MINUTES. I shit you not. And we still lost.
What even was the point?

I don't play dota anymore but I watch vods of RTZ and other EG bois on YT semi-regularly and it fucking drives me nuts that like 2/3 of all dota vods on YT are of Miracle, like can the assholes who run the vod channels just stop jerking off to him and upload gameplay from some other players? I know he's a great player and very popular but seriously it's retarded.

The top players that play in the core roles are often under the microscope the most, and content creators would grasp the opportunity to obtain footage of their gameplay and release it on their behalf. Popular players like Miracle, rtz, etc bring in views, and that's just how the market goes
That being said, Valve's decision to allow free content under certain conditions has probably enticed more content creators to follow suit, but a possible downside would cause saturation amongst videos (quantity over quality). If I don't find any great content amongst Youtube to players/heroes I'm searching for, I just watch the game in game/ replays
