I've been thinking the same. There could be a bunch of challenge games, a bit like those SC2 ones, where the very basic concepts and mechanics would be tested. From lasthitting, warding, neutral stacking to some basic scripted events where you would have to interrupt channeling ultis or successfully pull of a gang or save your lanemate from enemy gang attempt, etc.
Only it wouldn't unlock anything, just affect the matchmaking so you'd only play with people who have, or have not, completed the same challenges as you.
Could be abused of course by having someone else complete the challenges for you, but I'd still assume most people want to play with similarly skilled players.

Or it could be abused by good players who don't complete them in order to stomp players worse than themselves, etc.
Something like that is a bad idea and will never happen.

Stomping is something that will happen/is already happening anyway. So that does not make it a bad idea.

Other team picks AM. Enough said? Not quite. The AM is BM about it (and said AM is easily counter-able LOL), and after taking an insurmountable lead... Camps outside our t3s. Our morph refuses to let the creeps push in and kill us, so we spend like 20 mins doing nothing. This is everything that is wrong with dota in one place.

Got two things to rage about.
First pub game:
I play carries normally, as I'm tired of newbs getting them that can't last hit, and don't know how to farm.. So I choose one of like 10 different carries depending on what I feel like playing. The thing is, I'm mannered about it, I first select a carry as opposed to just straight up picking it.. Just so I can communicate with my team.. So I select PA (I have a near flawless record on her, something like 10-1)... Anyways, as I have her selected and type in chat "I can carry", someone on my team then instantly responds by picking AM.. I call them out on it and I'm like "Wtf, what a dick move".. And he responds "I checked your profile and u have top 3 heroes played as carries, and I don't want you to be bad, so I picked one".. So anyways I'm like whatever, this dude sounds decent at least.. So I pick a support so I can at least give us wards. Fast forward now to the 20 min mark, the AM is like 0-7, zero clue how to last hit in general as I support him, tower dives and dies numerous times.. Epic fail.. Turns out all 4 of my teammates were partied up together as well.
Second pub game:
Teammate 1 instantly First-picks Spectre right as the picking phase starts.. I go initiation as result. Then Teammate 2 goes "no, I carry".. Then picks Void right after that... So we have Spec and Void.. Spec proceeds to feed hard in lane and is like 0-6 within 15 mins.. Void not faring much better.. Takes 40 Mins to get a Mask of madness. Game was a total fail and loss.
Ughhhhhh sometimes people frustrate me.. When I get people like this on my teams numerous games in a row, sometimes I will just take a day or two break from dota entirely as result.

Yes I suck, I suck fucking hard, and it's my fault, but laning as Windrunner against Drow Ranger and Huskar was not a fun experience. After having played my first 15-20 games of DOTA 2 over the weekend I can say that Windrunner is my favorite hero, but it's not fun when the 4 carriers (always 4, always....) insist on laning together. On a different note it does mean I get to last hit and get Monkey King Bar and just use the Windrunner as a freeroam ganker after a while.

Playing a game as pudge and playing like a fucking god, 99% fucking hook hits. But opponent got the faggiest of teams and pushes us down like mad before 20 minutes. One of the rare moments in a pub where your teammates can actually play and we hold until 50 minutes when we teamwipe after taking two sets raxes and lose. Good pub game but fuuuuuuuuuck

jesus christ everyone i play with is filled with such unreasonable tendacies.
played with an 0-8 leshrac (who had tilted the game in their favour quite a bit but spoke english as opposed to rusk so i wasn't going to bash him) who seemed adamant that because he bought the courier a set of wards and the flying courier he was justified in his 0-8 and the reason he was 0-8 was because the rest of the team is awful
at which point I stopped what I was doing and told him that, no the reason he was 0-8 was because he had poor decision making such as trying to initiate teamfights as leshrac and that maybe 2 at a push 3 of your deaths came from incompetent SS calling the other 5 were from poor decision making and you should accept that and try to learn from the mistakes
also told him that it's ok I'm not mad that the game is lost because sometimes we all have a shit game where things dont go our way.

queued up, waited for a loooooooong time. apparently that put me into retard MMR range. i give up my farm as visage for my antimage which is fine since visage is a great 3/4/5. antimage has freefarm, we rape the lane, i even get him FB. enemy (aa/es) too scared to even touch him.
he decides to use this advantage to go hood-first into a 30-something minute bfury and half-finished manta by 45minutes
Mind-bogglingly, the team supports antimage and blames me for failing (?). I can only imagine they're friends.. and when I check dotabuff, yep. A fail-queue of 4, and me. Yay.
But hey, at least the morph finished a linkens/manta by 45 minutes /rolleyes.
I normally don't care about fail carries.. but the blind supporting of antimage's fail just because they're friends is soooooooo frustrating

I used to toy around with this idea a lot, but consider the fact that all the low level games would be composed of only supports

I find that the USEast server generally offers up more reasonable people who are also more polite and sociable. The Euro/Russian servers generally have some very selfish players.
What is a selfish player you ask? A guy who randoms a hard support but doesn't even have the decency to buy a courier, even if he has 300 gold leftover after he buys his starting items! Then, he's got the audacity to ask why you haven't ganked his lane and start pinging at you every time he dies. That shit is just really lame.

Played my first two "real" games of Am and luna this weekend. I'd been avoiding hard carries like this because I've been unsure as to my farming abilities, and I'm usually the guy raging at my carry as a support for sucking at last hitting, so i have been wanting to make sure my last hitting is up to par before trying to carry. Well, come random draft game. AM is available, so I first pick him, as he is just a pain to play against, especially in a SD scenario. Well the SS on my team just is f'ing RAGING all game in voice chat, first bashing me just because I picked am, and then because I told him there is no hard counter to AM(he says, beastmaster is....LOL). "OMG I F'ING HATE BFURY AM, DUDE JOIN THE TEAM FIGHTS!!!" as he zips in to 3 people using every last bit of his mana, and raging at me as i run away with half hp from the people to let him die. "DO SOMETHING!!!!" He's yelling all game. Meanwhile, I'm farming the best I can, and am really the only teamfight dps my team has anyways. Finally it gets to the point where it's obvious that whatever they do, they won't win, they're facing an AM with bfury, butterfly, manta, heart, abyssal blade, BoT, and aegis, and they don't have a hard carry, just every single one of them has a stun, so I can't just run in and 1 v 5. So I can jump in, fight as bit, but I can't actually beat them 1 v 5. And this stupid farking Storm is STILL raging at me every time i leave a fight, saying I'm just dragging out the game, trying to look pro by farming creeps instead of winning the game. The scoreboard makes it completely obvious that my farming is literally the only reason we were going to win the game(I'm 15-2, noone else on my team has over 6 kills, all of them have negative k/d ratios), but he still rages at me, in voice chat, until the very end. Like......WTF???? Yes, bfury am is annoying when you're trying to push, or if he never joins the fights, but I joined multiple fights for towers, overcame a horrific start to begin with, and was the ONLY reason we won the game, and it even got kind of close at the end because team fights revolved around me providing all of the dps, and when they would chain stuns on me, they could easily rape my teamates while I was disabled. No matter, I'm just a terrible player who does nothing but farm all game and never fights. I have never had to endure this kind of vocal stupidity directed at me in my entire time playing dota and HoN, and to have done in a game where i was the ONLY reason we won the game just makes it even more stupid. Does he think AM wins by staying with the team at all times after minute 15??? When we have a useless spectre on the team too??? F that guy, seriously. It's not like I was doing terrible farming either, I had ~400cs in a 50 minute game, not godlike farm, but for a random, normal skill rating pub, that is fairly solid.

tbh if you're that farmed no reason to keep battlefury, just drop it for bkb. Lesson learned that game, still funny qq tho
as for me, two games today that I lost IN A ROW, first game was due to fucking Lycan (and this is in SD too, sigh) and the hardest carry on our team being...Naga Siren. I actually support WR alright, wards, buy chick, end 8/7 and some amount of assists and get our Night Stalker and Naga some kills but FUCKING LYCAN KOTL AND KUNKKA. Oh, and our Venge rushes mek and can't do shit all game.
Second game I get a 2 man party, goes CM and gondar. This fucking CM rushes headlong, multiple times, into enemy invoker and lion while the 2 of them have AT LEAST 2 or 3 levels on her. Late game she charges in 1v5 instead of leaving the initiating to say, me, a Slardar with blink and bkb. BH bitches about dying in a game where his first death is when he's already 4/1. Most BHs could translate that lead into a sure win, just gank repeatedly, get deso and bkb and win right? Nope, he goes battlefury and butterfly vs invoker, lion, ursa, sven, and WR. BH literally spends the entire game farming. As in, enemy team pushes mid and take t2 and t3. BH...pushes to t1 tower bot and doesn't even kill it, leaving the rest of us to get anally raped and fountain dived because FUCK YOU IM URSA. Then enemy team pushes bot, and BH...farms fucking Ancients and goes to bottle an Invisibility rune. Wow, that'll really turn this around, right BH? Ursa's killed Rosh twice, we kill it for the third time to get aegis and cheese. BH, with his 150+ farm, goes off...to farm more in the jungle. PLEASE STOP.
He finishes with battlefury, butterfly, linken's, and SnY, and literally cannot do shit with it because both invoker already has sheepstick, ursa has blink, and lion has orchid. Meaning we're fucked. Oh, and CM finished 2/19. Please tell me that people aren't stupid enough to run in 19 times into an enemy team, get instagibbed, and can't figure out that they probably should not FUCKING RUN IN 1V5 OR VS INVOKER.

Argh, so annoyed right now. I hate when people pick jakiro since majority of the time, they suck. Utterly useless teammate that just ended up feeding. On top of that, had an ES that had blink and never used it. I was OD, pretty damn farmed and could have killed most had there been a single good blink.
I pretty much was far enough ahead of all the team that I could kill most people. But no, entire match ruined because of some moron. Oh, I forgot to mention. The ES decided to sell everything and buy 6 stout shields...

I actually dropped my bfury at the end for the aegis, even though I never had to use it. And I needed to keep my bfury, because I was facing a manta chaos knight, so, ILLUSIONS EVERYWHERE. Funny ancedote time. First off, I love jakiro, especially solo lane xp jakiro. Well, one time, in a(badly) losing effort, just the fact I played a halfway competent, aka, non-feeding jakiro meant I got messaged by the arranged team that kicked our butt, and they invited me to play a couple of games with them, because they had never, ever seen a jakiro played somewhat competently, and they were apparently laughing their butts off at me going solo mid with him until I won the lane. They thought I was actually a good player, who got a bad random, even after I ended up 1/6/12 or something(lost the game ~40/15 in 35 minutes). So, if you want to look pro, learn jakiro.
